"No one sings like you anymore" - RIP

This song will always have a special meaning for me.

When my daughter (now 22) was a teenager, she obviously wanted NOTHING to do with her dad’s music. But on the way home from a road trip, “Black Hole Sun” came on the radio. We’d never heard the song together.

When the chorus came up, we BOTH started singing! We stared at each other in shock, but never stopped singing!

It’s one of those bonding moments you hang onto forever.

I can never listen to this without Spoonman automatically playing in my brain right after it.

“No one sings like you anymore” that line gets me every time now when I hear this song.
Chris Cornell was such a talented singer and songwriter.

Chris Cornell explained the song's origins: "I wrote it in my head driving home from Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, a 35-40 minute drive from Seattle. It sparked from something a news anchor said on TV and I heard wrong. I heard "blah blah blah black hole sun blah blah blah". I thought that would make an amazing song title, but what would it sound like? It all came together, pretty much the whole arrangement including the guitar solo that's played beneath the riff. I spent a lot of time spinning those melodies in my head so I wouldn't forget them. I got home and whistled it into a Dictaphone. The next day I brought it into the real world, assigning a couple of key changes in the verse to make the melodies more interesting, then I wrote the lyrics and that was similar, a stream of consciousness based on the feeling I got from the chorus and title." - RIP Chris Cornell

I was at their breakup concert in Hawaii. After their bass player stormed off stage, Chris came back out to play this song for the encore...solo. It was hands down the best version of the song that I've ever heard, and the visuals during the concert were phenomenal. He basically did the entire intro in the dark, and on "Black Hole Sun" the high wattage red lights came up...and you could feel the heat of them in the crowd. It was the highest level of immersion that is hard to explain without having been there.

“Burden in My Hand” is an absolute must if we’re revisiting Soundgarden/Cornell…probably one of the best pure vocal intros in rock

"Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes"

This line never gets old and becomes more and more true, with every passing year.

The next of them should absolutely be "The day I tried to live"

"Outshined." First Soundgarden song I ever heard, and still my favorite.

This was a mindblowing video to a teenager in the 90s, and it really hasn’t aged a bit. Every bit as powerful as back then.

“Fell on Black Days” is also one of my favorites.

"It is upon these hills that Juan Valdez and his trusty goat go to pick coffee beans every morning." -Beavis and Butthead, commenting on the very beginning of the music video. 🤣

It's been a hell of an emotional roller coaster ride for me with Soundgarden. I was devastated when I first heard they broke up. I was elated when they finally regrouped and put out what I consider yet another amazing album from them (King Animal). Then was devastated once again when we lost Chris. Will miss Chris and the band deeply until my days are done.

I've heard these songs a million times, but seeing her palpable excitement in the reactions always gives me the feeling of hearing them for the first time again :)

This song always makes me think of my late grandmother. As a kid I was at her house watching MTV and this video came on, she asked "why are they playing their guitars so low? Do they have holes in the back of them or something?" 😂😂😂 GRANDMA!

This song had a psychedelic era Beatles vibe. Like a metal/grunge Strawberry Fields.

I was at a BUSH concert just after Chris died and they did a tribute that brought a tear and I'm not even a Soundgarden fan. Sometime we are given gifts and talents that come with an expiration date. Just very, very sad.
