It’s better to look at it as a form of college in Korea. With social media you don’t need the group to be successful to make yourself a star as an adult in the industry. An idol may leave without “paid” but the training, career, housing, food, and travel are paid for with the money the group earns.

"Rookie idols from Big company/ Trainees from popular show" should be specified since there are many idols outside of this who barely get paid enough or don't even get paid.

Many of them are lucky because they are from a big company and some clicked with the public while there are 1000s of unknown kpop groups who probably debuts and disbands without even the public's knowledge and gets no salary but are most likely in debt :(((

Most kpop groups won't make even 1k in their whole careers. Some even leave the industry in debt after years of unpaid work.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we know that K-pop rookie groups from smaller companies do eventually get paid, but isn't it it often comes after they’ve covered their debt to the company for training, housing, and promotions? I mean, their income usually starts as a small share of profits from album sales, performances, and endorsements, but only after the company has taken its cut right?
