.............................................................

This is the all-new DS 9, and Mat’s about to find out if this luxurious French saloon has what it takes to compete with its German counterparts!

For starters, it’s clearly quite striking on the road. There’s a big grille upfront, along with a strip down the middle of the bonnet - just like you’ll see on a Mercedes Maybach! There are creases down the side and a whole lot of chrome around the back. In fact, the rear even reminds us of an E-Class!

Once you step inside, there are a whole load of plush materials throughout the cabin, as well as large infotainment and digital dial screens. However, neither run as well as what you might find in a Mercedes. But then again, with a starting price of just £40,000, they’re not exactly bad!

In terms of performance, the range-topping DS 9 comes equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine along with dual-electric motors. All combined, they are good for 360hp.

So what do you think - can the DS 9 compete with class leaders like the S-Class? Or are you better off saving up and going German? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

So, would you consider the DS 9 over the S-Class? 🤔

Just like every other big Citroen before, it's good to know that in 10 years I'll be driving this for £1200.

The french automakers have really stepped up their game in the recent years! I have a Citroen C3 and I love the design, not to mention that it’s a no-nonsense, comfy daily driver. Well done, France, well done…

In terms of ride quality, that car is massively underrated, the ride quality is just amazing. Also in terms of manufacturing quality, it's on par with german premium, only the materials are about half class less premium, but for the price is great compromise, you can't get better for that price. I think that Stellantis should put a lot morein marketing as most of people need a first hand experience to get to know the brand because except car lovers, noone knows DS, and if you tell them "it's (was) basically a premium Citroen", many wouldn't think that it's on that level and will not understand the price

Seems like the French have actually been watching a lot of carwow when designing their cars... Very impressed I must say

Hey MW, would you consider including audio quality of car music systems into your reviews going forward, a lot of people choose higher trims simply for the audio tech it would great to know from your reviews if that’s a good way to go. Thanks keep up the great work 👌🏾

Focal is a high end French audio equipment company (it's pronounced - they make amazing speakers so I would take that option. Assuming that it's not just a branding exercise.

The reason why the petrol door is locked and takes a while to open is because it’s pressurized. This is done to keep the petrol fresh in case you go a long time without replacing the gas.

I Drive a DS 9 rivoli + with all the opcional equipment. The model Matt is testing it's a low equiped one. It doesn't have night vision, massage in all the 4 seats, auto pilot, all the seats heated and ventilated, auto parking... More equiped than an E class or 5 series for less. For me, It is also more confortable, but less sporty, having owned other E segment cars. Nevertheless, with no optionals, It has much better features than it's rivals: Matrix LED, front heated, ventilated and massage seats, aceptable driving aids such as adaptative cruise control, the camera operated suspension, key-less entry...

Matt should say all the available equipment the car has. A little bit disappointed with his review.

DS is one of my favorite brands because they're never afraid to do things differently

Matt, as an owner of DS7 I can tell you one thing. You should have reviewed the higher spec one. There you get much more for your money, lots of things that you don't have in a much more expansive German brands. And the price difference is not that big from the lower end. Somewhat seems like you don't do DS justice in both clips, DS7 and DS9.

"Design for Design's sake" yes, that is precisely the point of DS

I would like 360hp hybrid version. But... the fuel tank capacity totally this disqualifies the car and renders it super annoying.
BTW: It's not an S Class competitor lol, not even close that pricetag.
It's direct Lexus ES 300h, 5 series and E-Class competitor.

Hello Matt! Love your videos!
Would you consider making a part in your video reviews where you show how the external lights (and maybe the interior ones too) look at night e.g. back tailgate lights, front daily running lights + headlights and lastly the turn indicator lights? Would be nice to see that as some of the cars have some great designs!

It looks nice. You know I would really appreciate a real world comparison between this car and its main competitors, the E class 5 series and A6. Kind of like, 6 weeks of daily driving each of the vehicles and then comparing them.

How can a car that's the same length as an E-class be an S-class rival?

I have a Peugeot 508, various parts on this look the same, even the front thang light design. Guessing they used that as the basis on the DS9 since it's part of the same group. If you can't afford a DS9 the Peugeot 508 is definitely one to look at!
