I've got the TG 4 and it's fabulous for all the things you posted. The only drawback is it doesn't have a flip screen, so I can't do selfies or put it on a tripod and try to be in the picture. Rapid fire shooting is also so much better with the TG 4 when it comes to fast moving objects, like a dolphin jumping out of the water. Last thing you want is to look and see you got a picture of the splash it left behind! I wish more models had the flip screen!

Toby, its funny, I missed this review when it first came out and 2 days ago I went and purchased the TG-860 (still without watching your review) for my daughter to take on a school trip ( lots of adventure and water), so I haven't really had a chance to review it for myself, after seeing your review I'm sure it will stand up to her teenage shenanigans (I hope, lol) but she is pretty competent when it comes to cameras, cheers for the great review.

I have to agree with this. The olympus TG-8xx is bang for your buck. I have the TG-830 and it takes over where my 70D and S95 will get toast.
At one time I was in Palawan Island in the Philippines and I was using the S95 while my girlfriend was using the TG-830 and photos turned out to be equally good surprisingly. I ll have to maximise first my TG-830 before making again the leap forward.

Just picked this up on Amazon for $150 refurbished. Tempted to try the T4, with some better features, and raw file capability, but for the price point it was just too good. And I was looking for something under $200, tough, and good enough it could be as good or better than my iPhone 6s, and could be strapped onto a bookbag if hiking where my hands are going to be occupied keeping me alive versus using the camera. At least that's the theory! Plus the waterproof is a bonus.

I went with the Nikon aw120 as they did some good deals when the 130 came out (this just added nfc).
Mainly as the reviews were good and it does a good job as a point and shoot.
I now have a Sony z5 phone which addresses the weatherproofing.
Do now it's mainly the zoom range that's helpful over a phone camera.
Ability to charge over USB is a bonus too as only need phone charger to charge the camera too.

I've owned two similar cameras, a sony tx5 and tx20 always better cameras than gopros, so, without a doubt, i would pic this olympus for it's Wi-Fi, flip screen, gps and the 21mm wide is also a good feature without the exagerated fish eye look of the gopro

Just checked manual again (online as I haven't bought the camera) and yes it's 99 frames only! Misleading text on P25 says "recording length up to 24hrs". That must mean the interval length. This is really putting me off this camera which I was all set to buy.

Great little video. I'm looking at picking up a water resistant camera/video. However there's a little 2nd hand Sony I'm also considering which is half the asking cost of the 2nd hand Olympus. It has stereo mic/speakers for video audio. Does this model also have that?

Can you check your camera time lapse specs for me please? The Olympus site says intervals of 0.3/1/3/6/12/30 secs for up to 24hrs duration?

also, the tg860 has 120fps slo mo which is 1080p and also has 240fps which is 720p
