Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese group of atomic bomb survivors, has won the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.

The organisation, made up of survivors of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was recognised by the Norwegian Nobel Committee for its efforts to rid the world of nuclear weapons.

The group were praised by Nobel Committee Chair, Joergen Watne Frydnes, for their use of witness testimony to ensure nuclear weapons are never be used again.

Founded in 1956, the organisation sends survivors around the world to share their testimonies of the "atrocious damage" and suffering caused by the use of nuclear weapons, according to their website.

This is a very important message at a time when the threat of atomic war is very real.

In the speech he says, “I thought those fighting hard for peace in Gaza would deserve it. The images of the children in Gaza covered with blood held by their parents remind me of Japan 80 years ago. Children lost their fathers in the war and lost their mothers with the nuclear bomb. They became orphans.“

In comparison with the category, the organisation selected for the prize has correctly been awarded. Congratulations to the winner and gratitude to the Nobel committee.

I have just read an article about a British woman, Ms.Isabelle Townsend who was casted in a film called "The postman of Nagasaki" According to the article, she created the film as thinking of her father, Mr.Peter Townsend who was in Royal Air Force during the war.
I would like to pray for everyone who has led Hidankyo members to the center stage, and pray for all souls sacrificed for us today.

I think this was long over due. In its annual memorial ceremony this year in Nagasaki, the mayor dis-invited the Israeli ambassador to Japan. Other ambassadors notably of the USA, UK, and France then boycotted the Nagasaki ceremony on 9 August. The mayor just made the point that what Israel was doing in Gaza was not aligned with expectations held by people who know the meaning of atrocity . I just wonder if the Norwegian committee took account of this incident in August.

I just want Nobel Peace Prize committee to stop giving the award to Politicians like Aung San Suu Kyi, Obama, Kissinger, and Abey. Give the award to organizations like this or individuals from NGOs or activist/advocates.

This is the second Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Japan, both of which are related to nuclear weapons. The first was awarded to Prime Minister Sato, who declared the Three Non-Nuclear Principles, though they were not entirely successful. I hope this Nobel Peace Prize contributes to achieving peace in the truest sense.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE OFTEN APPEARS AS A WESTERN NARRATIVE BADGE, REWARDING THOSE WHO ADVANCE WESTERN INTERESTS RATHER THAN GENUINELY ACKNOWLEDGING TRUE PEACEBUILDING EFFORTS.

This is just ridiculous. Imperial Japan was part of the Axis, and they invaded most of southern and eastern Asia. They literally committed thousands of war crimes and genocide during their occupation. They were bombed for a reason. I'm not saying there weren't innocent souls died from the A bomb, but there were thousands more killed by Nazi Japan. This is like if Nazi Germany was bombed and the Nobel Peace Prize was given to the survivors of the bombing and not to the survivors of the Holocaust. Maybe dropping the bomb not the most righteous thing to do, but nazi Japan should never be treated as the victim of the war
