Just a few years ago, Americans were telling everyone that China stole their technology, copied everything, only made cheap stuff that was poor quality. And it seemed that a lot of people liked to hear this and didn't bother to find out if it was true. Until the EV cars hit them in the face and they had to wake up. America likes to protect its big corporations overseas and at home. They are not interested in competition. Rather they like to cripple or buy out the competition. Even spin and exaggerate how good American made stuff is. But they can no longer fool the world now. Suddenly the best value manufacturing is from China and people are waking up.

I used to buy Honda, range rover and Audi. Now I buy BYD here in Indonesia. Also my brother and my friends are all buying Chinese cars too these days.

I saw the 2nd "slave labor" the commentator used was with a hand gesture quote, so, as someone who is Chinese, worked for a US company, lived in Xin Jiang for 3 years (the region mentioned in Rock Stock's referrenced article when replying to other viewers' arguements about the slave labor topic) and now works and lives in North America, I want to make a comment: Don't trust 100% on one single source. Buy a plane ticket, fly to Xin Jiang, China and see for yourself, and then update with positive, negative or any other conclusion in between, anything you want. I've lived on both sides and seen false statements towards both US and CN, I did not just throw out a web page stating "well here it is~", I got on a plane and explored, which I think is something you can do now with a 144 hr landing VISA in China. Act like an adult and don't fuel something you don't understand. I'm a Han Chinese and I have Uyghur friends, I greet them with "As-salamu alaykum" at the beginning of a conversation to make them more comfortable and show respect for their religion. Do you do this to your Muslim friends or do you even have muslim friends?
If you find evidence, expose it. you are a youtuber, aren't you?
If you could not find it, don't spread hate.

17:19 slave labour is non- exists in China EV industry.
Btw, labour is a minor component of EV costs. It's the cost of battery and AI technology that counts.

Great discussion gentlemen. To solve this problem, we Americans have to be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that for many years, we were asleep at the wheel because corporations only saw China as a consumer cash cow which led to complacency driven only by corporate profits and not national interest. For anyone who has been to China recently and toured a factory there, as I have, needs to know that old tropes like slave labor and lax environmental policies are oversimplistic and in many cases, no longer apply. They've become masters of efficiency, innovation, and automation on a scale that is truly jarring. We are at least a decade behind and remember, even if we get our act together, they won't be standing still. For an ancient civilization, their society is remarkably willing to adopt technology and ideas whereas we seem to be content adhering to anachronistic practices and infrastructure. The cat is out of the bag and I totally agree with the conclusion that we need to adopt their playbook for reverse technology transfer because if we continue to see the second industrial/technological revolution as a zero sum game, we lose. We can't tariff our way out of this. Their market is over 80% of the world population and the fastest growing economies at that. We are doomed if we just try to wall ourselves off to a stagnating 20%. Ignorance and hubris are powerful forces and I hope we can overcome them and do the right thing

Excuse me... In China, the slave labour of EVs and legacy automakers are non-existent, and the era of cheap labour in China is over .. They have already moved into the realm of robotics and automation .. the commentator is quite behind time and clueless..
Go visit China and update yourself on what is the latest trend in China
and experience the goosebumps..

None of these guys in the video has actually been to China or driven Chinese EVs, so they have no idea at all why Chinese EVs can sell better than ICE cars. They only see the price, thus they think it's because of slave labor. They don't know that it's due to intelligence, high efficiency and advanced technology.

Tariffs may protect local manufacturing but it will not fix the issue of manufacturing costs. The end result is that locally manufactured cars will only sell locally, e.g., US manufacturers will still not be able to compete in the international market. The US currently is a market of roughly 15 million new cars annually. How many auto manufacturers can survive in this market ?

Wow, one of the guy still talk about cheap labour. Go to China and see the factories yourselves - fully automated with robots doing the manufacturing. No wonder you guys are clueless what happened to the EV industry.

China's advantage on demand side benefit from decades of nation wide infrastructure investment. Electricity is abundant and cheap(0.07usd/kwh). Empty charging stations have been built all over the country long before the EV boom(5.2million by 2022).

As for the cost of environment protection and cheap (forced) labor. China's environment has been improved year by year. Any #chinatravel on YouTube can prove that. Labor is cheaper, about 1/3 of that of the US but labor cost itself is not a big portion and I wouldn't trust anyone who is forced to operate highly automated machinery. It's not a cotton field in 1850.
