Sounds more sweeter than a acoustic banjitar when strummed

My husband replaced the tail piece for my Gold Tone Banjitar recently and we chose a gold-colored metal tail piece sold for Banjitars by Gold Tone. This new tail piece is very nice and sturdy. I haven't tested it with any of my plug ins yet, just tuned it and played it as it for a test run. But I am thinking about getting new strings and try to upgrade the sound quality. The strings are just not sounding good, rather weak and flat since we added the new tail piece. Perhaps the new heavier tail piece has changed the sound a bit. So what would be your opinion be if I try upgrading the strings for a possibly better sound. I notice on several Banjitar forums D'Addario strings were recommended by several different people. Think it might perk up the sound a bit? And thank you for your demo. Very much appreciated by myself and many others I'm sure!

is the sound compromised and feels muffled compared to a regular banjo with a resonator?

Is the intonation set up properly on those, or is it just set in an approximate area along a straight line?
