Funny thing here... the name of Wado style karate is actually how you say Thank You in Cherokee. Wado. So it could be the "Way of Thanks". Lol😂

和 Wa' it represents Peace, Japan as well as Soft. Meijin Ohtsuka was brilliant to choose this kanji to represent that the style is Japanese Karate which Soft, but not to rely on brutal strength and it's the way of peace.
So he chooses Wadoryu 和道流.😊

Nice, but not entirely true. First, the bird is the Japanese Crane, not dove. Second, Wa can use Peace/Harmony, BUT it also refers to Japan. Japanese room in a house is called, Wa no sitsu, Japanese food; Wa no Shiko, Japanese clothing; Wa no fuku.
Therefor Wado means The Japanese way, as all other karate styles were from Okinawa, and therefor not considered Japanese. With that, Ohtsuka sensei used concepts and principles from Japanese MA, making Wado the Japanese way of Karate. Take into consideration that in the 1920-30 Japan was very nationalistic and chauvenistic...

Not true. I trained Wado Ryu for a few years in the UK and the symbol was a fist with the bird.

Sry this is not 100% correct. This is the explanation and Interpretation of a christian practitioner. The circle represents the whole, the Universe, which can be translated to Harmony in this context. And in japanese culture, especially in Shinto, the white dove is a symbol for Hachiman, the god of war. Don't forget Wado Ryo is derivated from Shindo Yoshin Ryu or Shinto Yoshin Ryu, which is an art of war but also a Shinto sect / side arm. So there is no peace in this meaning.
