Tongue Tie: Severity Grades 1-4 (Tongue Range of Motion Ratio)

There are several different ways of describing tongue tie. Some are purely positional whereas others are more functional. From the perspective of whether tongue tie may be causing symptoms, the functional grading system is more helpful. Known as TRMR (Tongue Range of Motion Ratio), this is calculated with two measurements: maximal inter-incisal mouth opening (MIO) and mouth opening with tongue tip to maxillary incisive papillae at roof of mouth (MOTTIP).

Grade 1: TRMR more than 80%
Grade 2: TRMR 50-80%
Grade 3: TRMR 50-25%
Grade 4: TRMR less than 25%

Guys grade 3 actually isnt normal if you look closly you will see that it may cause receeding gum lines wich is why its pulled so tight so when you go the dentist you can probrably ask them if its normal or not but try and show them on your phone or ipad whatever you are watch ing this. Video on

I have stage 3, and I can speak normal and have a speech normally, also I can say every letter, and it doesn’t botter me, my whole family has it.. it’s normal, unless it’s stage 4.

Mine is a stage 4, really hard to pronounce the letter R man🤣🤣😅.. People also sometimes say I chew my words😂😂

Can having a tongue tie prevent you from rolling your R’s because I’m having a hard ass time putting the tip of my tongue to the ridge of the top teeth and keeping my tongue relaxed while trying to roll my Rs

I have Grade 3 tongue tie. And top And bottom lip tie. I have lot's of problems. All over my body but my main ones are constant headaches/ migraines clicky/popping jaw that locks now and then. Back neck and shoulder pain. I'm 39 I never knew I had tounge tie until someone posted on an ADHD board saying there was a Link 😳 I'm from the UK I'm not sure the NHS would do much.
