Venice Simplon Orient Express: Video guide

The video shows the VSOE check-in at London, brunch on the British Pullman train to Folkestone, crossing the Channel by coach on the Eurotunnel shuttle train, and the Continental train from Calais to Paris & Venice showing the sleeping-cars, bar, all 3 restaurant cars & the excellent food at dinner.

Oh, and on a personal note, at 00:07:13 in this video you'll see S-type sleeping-car 3425 at Paris. In that very end vestibule of 3425 right in front of the camera, Mrs Seat61 & I accidentally got engaged in a snowstorm somewhere in the Brenner Pass, back in October 2003.

I worked for VSOE right after graduating from Cesar Ritz. I was stationed in Venezia and would board the train every week. I was able to travel to Dusseldorf and Calais. I truly cherish the memories.

My family were involved in the restoration of the British Pullman coaches, beautiful shots of the marquetry in the carriages that they restored.

Having to take a bus to cross over to France is a real anticlimax. I would certainly prefer to take 1st class Eurostar across and then board the Orient Express there: really dislike going by bus, no matter how luxurious.

The restoration on those over 100 year old carriages is incredible. The train appears to be smooth riding. I've noticed the different type of bogies under the carriages. This and proper track maintenance may be the reason. I would love to experience a trip on this beautiful train.

I've watched or attempted to watch many train travel videos. This is certainly one of the best. Many are 20 sec to 2 min - not long enough to get a feeling of anything. Many only show the scenery, and others are far to shaky to see anything. In this, the camera is smooth and stable and shows that it is a quality camera with someone who knows how to use it properly and can select the right shots to give the viewer an opportunity to appreciate your experience. BRAVO, well done and thanks.

The woman at 6:40 must have read "Murder on the Orient Express" - I love her homage with the red kimono-style dress!

I love how they managed to sneak in a red kimono!;) Intentional or not, made me smile.

Awesome.

I just remember a train trip 3 yrs ago when we were travelling to a rock festival near Prague (just a normal international train). At Bratislava, a guy entered our coupe, seemingly having the same destination. As conversation went on about the festival (using English), I just made a remark that he has a nice French accent. He just said that "Actually I'm from Belgium. And my last name is NOT Poirot."

We ordered champagne in the bar car and laughing that it at least a bit feels like having a trip on the Orient Express :)

I remember when carriages like these were in regular use. My earliest memory is traveling on a Pullman.

This is like something out of the past, like going back in time. Class, elegance, beauty, quality, good service, good manners. One would never see this nowadays in a modern setting, not even in first class travel or accommodation.

How can the world have gone downhill to such an extend within the last 100 years?

Loved that Agatha Christie's Poirot reference at 6:40 (I think it was at least)
