Scientists have finally succeeded in creating chimeric embryos!

Recently, a paper has been published in the journal Cell, in which the researchers reported the construction and lineage-tracking of human-mouse chimeric embryos. These embryos were grown outside the womb (ex vivo) and their developmental trajectories were followed. The study was motivated by the potential of these chimeric embryos to hopefully one day be used to develop technologies which can make organs who need organ transplants. However, since monkeys are evolutionarily very close to humans, the study also raised a lot of alarm bells. How justified are the warnings by bioethicists? I discuss that and more in this video.
