About this talk:

In this talk, a Linux kernel developer gets to complain how his normal "test case" i.e. userspace code, could do better when it comes to a whole range of different things that have been learned over time by maintaining a stable interface to the kernel for 20+ years.

About Greg:

Greg Kroah-Hartman is a Fellow at the Linux Foundation. He is currently responsible for the stable Linux kernel releases, and is a maintainer of the USB, TTY, and driver core subsystems in the kernel as well as other portions of the kernel codebase that he wishes he could forget about.

KDE did break one thing in the move to 4.0 that is still annoying: there is no ability to set a desktop background picture that spans multiple screens.

So, this can essentially be summarized to:
- to be an asshole to your users
- use common sense
- keep in mind that there are people depending on your work for their monthly income (if your program/library or whatever has enough users/is known enough, your are going to have such people; and if you don't, then either your project is young, not needed by anyone else or you have never released it)
