AADRL Studio Angius W1 @AADRL Architectural Association

4 weeks' research on digital form-finding techniques for structural topology optimization and physical prototyping of complex geometric topologies by means of flat sheet materials.

Topology optimization has been used as a form-finding technique to generate optimized structural configurations on the basis of variable fitness criteria. Three-dimensional tessellation systems and geometrical unrolling procedures have been subsequently used to rationalize and translate complex three-dimensional geometric topologies into flat sheets. Material bending and curve folding capabilities have been analysed and strategized to dry assemble large scale physical models.
