Maple Grove Girls Basketball Advances with Buzzer-Beating Win

Claire Stern’s basket with less than one second remaining gave the Maple Grove girls basketball team 56-55 over Lakeville North in the Class AAAA state quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon. Ava Cossette’s in-bound lob pass with 2.1 seconds remaining over the Panthers’ defense found Stern wide open under the basket for the lay-up. Jordan Ode led the Crimson in scoring with 16 points. Ava Cossette added 11 and Bella Hanna 10. Stern finished with seven points. Trinity Wilson lead Lakeville North with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Maple Grove (25-4) advances to the tournament semifinals against top-seeded Hopkins (26-3) Thursday at 6:00 pm at Williams Arena. The Royals beat the Crimson by six points when the teams played in January.
