This is an older video - but just for new people that are in the hobby or finding this video. The ideal for this size tank would be to just have the purple tang - and remove the other tangs. You could also add a white tail (or regular Kole or Tomini). That would give you 2 compatible tangs. After several years of growth you may need to re-home the purple or upgrade the tank size to 150+. When it comes to having purple and yellow tangs in the same tank it needs to be 200+ and more than just 2 (more like 3 or 4) to spread out aggression. Also this in not extreme - just normal when they are put in the tank together at this size. In some RARE cases it works out - but that isn't normal. Just my 2 cents. Happy reefing everyone.

4 tangs? Dude you need a 200g for that, tank is tiny, keep the purple with fox face and small fish

Ed, try taking the purple tang out of the tank for a week or 2 then put him back in. Having him out of the tank will relieve stress, allow the other tangs to heal and establish their own areas in the tank. Then reintroduce the purple tang. This will make him the new fish in the tank and my settle his aggression. You may see a little aggression at first but it may slow down after a day or so. If the aggression returns to the same level after this then you will want to think about returning him to the store for a smaller one.

Ed, Get yourself a small mirror put it in the lower right corner that should lower the aggression

Tank is too small, too many tangs in tank. Pick a King and stick to it, return the rest to local reef store for credit.

If you can take out all of the tangs for a short period of time from two to four weeks have all the fish in different tanks. When you go to add them back into the main tank add them all in at once. When doing this do it at night time. Put all the fish in right before turning off the lights.

Look, i'm not a tang police. I have a 90 gallon EXACTLY like that with only a flame angel, a bangai cardinal, and fire goby in it (my yellowtang of 8 years just passed away) i would never even think about putting more than 1 tang in a 90g i think people who say "you need a 180g for a tang" are just dumb my yellowtang lived a full lifetime in my tank and was happy as could be. BUT THAT MANY TANGS IN A 90 IS HORRIBLE!!!

I thought yellow tangs were also aggressive. Need a community tank I'm guessing. I forget math formula to determine max tank fish capacity

That tank is far too small for all of those tangs. Just the hippo tang is pushing it, and you have another 3? I have a 90g and am hesitant to put a purple in due to lack of space. Your worried about the look and the poor hippo tangs fins. Soooo how to fix the aggression? Yes, get rid of some of the fish.

You do not know why they are stressed out and picking on each other?

Ignore all the tank size police. You got good taste: It is one awesome-looking tank if you ask me. Hope that mirror or move/putback trick worked for you tho.

I have a reefer 425 xl "90g not including sump" with a tomini in the tank & blue tang currently in QT .. then after I'll be adding a yellow also alongside two small clowns so 5 fish that's it .. but in saying that the two tangs I have are only 2 inches ATM & I'll be upgrading to a 750xxl in a year .. you can have a few tangs together providing there's only one of each genus but an upgrade has to be within reach

Sorry to see. I had the very same experience with a purple tang ( agrssion towards the other fish including yellow tang) long story short, he had to go.

what to do is do a lot more research before you buy a fish. IDK what size that tank is but if its at least 100 gallons than keep ONLY 1 tang and rehome the rest to better aquarists. its probably too late now im guessing theyre all dead but for any other person viewing this video do your research first. Just because you want all these amazing fish doesnt mean you can keep them all together in the same tank.

I saw paul blaney put a mirror in his tank as his tangs are aggressive against each other and he said it helped a lot. I dont own tangs so i am not experienced in this but from what i have seen they will most likely always fight like that especially the purple. Maybe what billy pipes said is the best thing to do ... take him back. Good luck and hope you find a solution.

How about removing the purple tang for a week let the yellow tangs get use to not being bully and introducing back the purple Tang at night

My best advice is for you too find another or do some research first before you buy animals that you do not know how to I know this is an old video so I just hoped you have learned since then.
