My mother's asthma inhaler went up in price last year to almost $400...when in Turkey I discovered that it costs about $3.50 there. Same drug, same manufacturer, same number of doses...100 times less. This is such a huge problem in the US.

Whenever I travel internationally, I always stop at a pharmacy and buy multiple tubes of tretinonin over the counter. In Qatar and Portugal, I pay around $5 per tube!

Pharmacy tech here! Goodrx is a really great resource, but here are a couple tips:
1. You can actually use one coupon and keep it on file, and it will work on all of your medications!
2. These coupons work really well on generic drugs, but not very well on brand name only drugs
3. Please don’t harass us if the price isn’t exactly what the coupon says! We bill goodrx, and they give us a price. Most likely you have plugged something in wrong (strength, form, etc). We can sometimes contact your doctor to find cheaper alternatives
4. Discount card prices can fluctuate, so the prices may very slightly each time you pick up the medication

As a healthcare provider who cares for medically isolated and financially strapped people this is sad. If all pharmacies accept these coupons then the lower prices should be the actual price. What a shame.

I love that the intention behind this video is to empower people because you genuinely care about others. I feel this behind all of your videos, Dr. Dray, and appreciate you so much! 🙂

The fact they we have to "coupon clip" for life saving medications like we are shopping for groceries is pathetic! If they can lower the price of medication with a "coupon, " they should just give that price to everyone all the time with or without the coupon. The "healthcare" system in this country is so broken and total 💩. No one should have to download an app and "shop around" for medications.

She’s not lying when she says “thousands of dollars” when it comes to Monoclonal Antibodies.

When I asked my derm for a Latisse Rx, she said “Oh we sell that here directly.” For a mere $130. Meanwhile it costs $50 generic with my goodrx coupon. So I asked for a paper Rx instead and told her why. We really have to research things ourselves.

Thank you so much for posting about this important issue--made more urgent right now with inflation raising costs for everything. When I was underemployed and didn't have health insurance through work (pre-Obamacare), I was paying $367/month for one prescription medication. I had canceled all my other prescriptions because I couldn't afford them, but I needed to stay on this one to function (and it had no generic). I was lucky because my state has a prescription assistance program that halved my costs. I am also one of those people who uses the same pharmacy for all my medications--I like my pharmacist keeping track of all my meds so she can warn me about potential interactions. I think that when it comes to healthcare, most Americans don't shop around. Not only for pharmacies but also hospitals for procedures. I totally get wanting to go to a hospital that is near your home (or easy to access) or picking a hospital that offers amenities that are important to you. But prices for the same surgery can vary WIDELY from hospital to hospital as well. Lab tests can also be super expensive sometimes. If you are uninsured or underinsured, be sure to mention to both your physician and lab test company that you're paying cash for your health services. You won't know if help is available if you don't ask! My state had an assistance program for lab tests as well, which brought my $157 blood test down to $25, and I wouldn't have known about it if my lab tech hadn't told me. These programs vary from state to state, so know what's available in yours. Look up your state in the State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) and other Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs (PAP). If you're on Medicare or are a veteran, those programs also offer assistance to people who are eligible. Anyone can also use the Medicine Assistance Tool ("medicine assistance tool . org" no spaces) to look for assistance you're eligible for.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video! I've been a regular viewer for over two years and I FINALLY got my first prescription for Tretinoin. I'm 50 and my derm said I had the skin of a 30-year-old (thanks to you!). In short, I downloaded my GoodRX coupon and paid $12.31 for a $166 tube of Tretinoin. GoodRX is such a gem (like you!), Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your great advice and overall common sense.

I’m a healthcare provider and have been recommending GoodRx to patients and colleagues for years. It is such an eye opener how wildly prices can vary between pharmacies. Well done video Dr Dray!

Thank you. I've known about good Rx but have not downloaded or used it. You taking us step by step showing how easy it is to use convinced me. Thanks. You are helping a lot of people because lots of people tell you to use it but don't show you how. Sometimes people need to see it.

Good RX brought my tube of Tretinoin from roughly 120 down to 40 something. The pharmacist was having a problem processing it at first and was like can you wait. I asked what the difference was and she told me. I waited lol.

This kind of tutorial is incredibly helpful! Prescription costs, deductibles and copays can be so confusing 🥴

The last family owned pharmacy in my area, a historical landmark which had been a beloved institution in Northeastern North Carolina and OBX for over 70 years, finally closed all but one location. This place was not only convenient, but the he staff was exceptional. Friendly, fast, and always willing to help. They have gone above and beyond for me when they didn’t have to, and I feel like such a big baby for crying as I’m typing this now, but I guess I’m just realizing how much this place meant to me, and the implications of its closing. This is what Walmart and corporate chain pharmacies have done to my town. If you go to the downtown area, there’s nothing but empty buildings and abandoned storefronts. It’s a ghost town. So many small NC towns are now. It’s sad because I live in an area that genuinely does value and support small businesses, but it’s also a working class town, consisting of mostly military families, college students, and retired people. It’s not always easy to stick to your values when exceeding your weekly food budget by just $10 might mean that a bill won’t be paid on time.
This turned into a rant, I apologize. I just hate Walmart. Haven’t shopped there once since my favorite pharmacy closed. Yes, it is their fault. No, I’m not sorry. Please support your local family owned businesses. Don’t wait until they are in trouble and can no longer afford to operate.

As a European this amazes me... In my county Finland all prescription medicine have to cost the same, no matter which pharmacy you buy it, it's the law. Also the pharmacists are required to suggest a lower cost brand, if there is one with the same active ingredient and vehicle, of course the costumer decides if they want to make the switch.

My daughter who is 27 now, has congentive heart problems since birth. Her meds were very expensive even with insurance, & I've been using Good RX for years, usually cheaper than my copay. Thanks for explaining the whole system!
