Darius the Great - Epic Iranian Music

preview_player
Показать описание
Music by Farya Faraji, vocals by Ali Reza Berenjan, Samin Saadat and Farya Faraji, ney by @AliFarbodnia . The Epic Iranian series is a musical project where the sounds of modern Iranian music are used as a framing device for themes pertaining to Iranian history. The musical form and melody I've written here emulates the compositional styles of late Medieval Iranian music like the works of Abdulghadir Maraghi, whose works will become foundational to Ottoman Classical music. The modes are used chromatic alterations between Shur, Māhoor, and a medieval variant of Segāh. The instrumentation consist of zournas, santour, tar, setar and ney, with daf drums. The lyrics are in the Old Persian language of Antiquity and from the Naqsh-e-Rostam imperial necropolis.

Lyrics:
I am Darius the Great King.
King of Kings.
A great god is Ahuramazda.
Who created this earth.
Who created yonder sky.
Who created man.
Who created happiness for man.
Who made Darius king.
Son of Hystaspes, an Achaemenid, a Persian,
Son of a Persian, an Iranian, having Iranian lineage.

Man, can you imagine a historically accurate TV show covering the reigns of Justinian/Khosrow Anushirvan with these bangers playing in the background

See, this is the kind of stuff that should be put in movie soundtracks for when they are trying to portray the Achaemenids. Actual Iranian instruments playing actual Iranian music will always sound better to me.

I'm thinking about 2500 years ago, when my ancestors from Sistan came to the Persepolis and passed through the gate of nations to pay their respects to the king of the kings, Darius the Great🔥
