THE IMAGE BOOK | Official UK Trailer | MUBI

Soundtracked by a deeply immersive 7.1 mix, it splices together classic film clips and newsreel footage, often stretched, saturated and distorted almost beyond recognition. Winner of the Cannes Special Palme d’Or, this is a journey through layers of light and darkness, sound and silence, innocence and guilt – sometimes disturbing, often moving and always deeply visceral. It’s proof, if we ever needed it, that the master auteur hasn’t lost his bite.

Weird thing is I recognize parts of these clips (and the audio) from Histoire Du Cinema.

"The editing in The Image Book is somewhat different from Godard’s previous collage films, even though some of the images here are ones he’s used before. " Self-Plagiarism?

The cut from Vertigo to drowning refugees seems pretty weak. Looks like a bad version of L'histoire du cinema, which was itself pretty bad. Even the cut from the trains to Johnny Guitar could have been sharper since the film opens with TNT explosions in mountains so the train can be built, the train that Crawford doesn't want to see built.
