Actually DeKnight said they decided to end it because after a while they thought it would get repetitive. Because in history they just kept mowing down Roman generals one after another until Crassus came along and fucked everything up. They said they wanted to end the series on a high note and would rather have people wanting more than people hating the show for going on too long.

it was a form of punishment, for running away in the previous episode, called decimation. the basic idea is that each soldier draws a lot and who ever is chosen is beaten to death by his fellow soldiers, meant to punish some and shame the rest while also installing a bigger fear in their commander and what he might do to them if they run away again, than in their enemy who may kill them in battle

I live to read the comments guys ! dam I love this serie and I love Spartacus amd the history, Ive seen season 1 and 2 already 3 times and season 3 time and I love the show with my heart, But damn every week its closer to the end :( and Crixus is the best char ever and I know he's gonna die :s and that episode is gonna be a pain in the ass, just like the episode Spartacus had to kill Varo and Varo pushed the sword self in to him that was so.painfull.. wel keep the comments going untill friday

i cant believe this series is reaching its end.
so sad that history means they are all doomed to death and crucifixtion and that we will get no spartacus returns kickassery.

sometimes i hate being a history major. :( i would happily turn a blind eye to them having spartacus win and have them all escape to someplace else where they can live free.

Crassus doesn't die Spartacus does and Pompeii takes credit for it. HISTORY! Also Crassus' son dies in the desert along with crassus at the battle of cahrre, many years later. All of Spartacus' army gets crucified on the road to Rome. Spoiler alert.
