Bike. Radio. Japan!

I took my KX2 this morning when I went out to ride my bicycle. I found a good place to put up my dipole where I could be in the shade. I worked 2 Japanese stations and then used my phone to record video of me working a third station so you can share in the joy of portable QRP.

Take your radio with you when you go out for a walk, a hike, bike riding, etc. You never know what will happen!

I totally love this! 5 watts and a wire from the USA to Japan from a bicycle mobile station...lol! It doesn't get any better than this. Inspiring video Cliff. Thanks!

Love it! How cool! I have got to get a decent battery so I won't have to be jealous of Japan--portable!

That is incredible Bob. To think you could be out on a bicycle throw a wire in the trees and reach Japan with 5watts. That was most impressive to me. I came to you via your channel because of your video on introduction to PSK31. I really enjoy your friendly and open way of trying to get people into ham radio with a soft easy introduction of topics. You are not intimidating nor are you talking in a way that scares new people off because we are still understanding what you are talking about or the lingo.  Great channel. By the way I am located about 5 blocks from Elecraft. I never knew they where so close to my home. Small world.  Well cheers and keep your channel going I think you are most likely helping a lot of new hams out there or potential hams.  Thank you!

Cliff -

Love the Surly. I have the Crosscheck in the same color. Great use of both bike and qrp. Congrats on the JR station!

Nice Surly. I have a bunch of bikes that would make great carries of QRP gear. This is a great idea. Thanks. -N1XF

Here it is. 6 years into the future. The year is 2023. The kx2/3 is still so popular that there is a 12 to 16 week back order.

Two of my favorite things, biking and radios. Those Surly bikes are awesome, several of my non-ham friends have them and have ridden across the US.

Fantastic Cliff! I love combining exercise and ham radio. Unfortunately, It's in the 110's+ here in Arizona so I'll have to wait until it cools down.

Do you have a parts list for your QRP Dipole? I've been running and end fed 9:1 antenna but I think I'd do better with a proper dipole.

I agree that was cool. My question is how did you send him cw without using the paddles. I noticed you were hitting buttons, so did you have cw macros to transmit.

Hi Cliff I am not a contester but I would like to use my computer to send CW. I just do not know how to do that and I do not know if an FT817 can be used.
