this trap is terrible for black, white just develops everything and will eventually be able to threaten taking the knight, in which the knight has to go back and black wasted two moves going to g4 and then back again

At least around my rating, my opponent almost never castles once the position of the two knights defense is reached. Much more often my opponent will attempt the fried liver or develop their other knight to c3. So this is a useful trap, but there are more common positions that should be studied alongside it in my experience.

Yes fishing pole trap work if you are novice, if you are not thinking enought, it is not a good move for black, to play knight to g4 coz you play 2 times the same knight not develloping other pieces, white are not forced to play h3, white can play d4 or c3 preparing for to push d4, not play the fishing pole trap thinking your opponent is donkey! 🐴

They can save the game tho by playing f4 instead of f3 so that en pessant is forced and they save the king
