It's amazing how many balls Jankovic got back. Her defense is astonishing against such a powerful player like Serena

I feel this is the win that started the 2009- present era of Serena. After the 2007 Aus Open she started getting back into form and had tough losses up until this major. In 09 she got into great form and really cultivated her serve into what it is now. The backhand has always been solid but her forehand is extremely sound now. Her knowledge of the game and dedication to her health is impeccable and why she is now virtually unbeatable. Hail Queen Serena! I love you!

This match REALLY shows how well Jankovic plays defensively.  She got back a LOT of balls that even Wozniacki would have not run for.  Many shots that would have been winners against 99% of the WTA were practically practice balls for JJ.  Her return at 1:18 proves this...HOWEVER, Serena REALLY brought her A-game even when her serve wasn't 100% here and really deserved this win.  Even though the scoreline doesn't automatically suggest it, this was an AWESOME match, especially for Serena to come all the back from 3-5, 0-40.  Wow!

This classic match belongs in Serena's top 5 of all time matches shes ever played for me it's her best US. Open final match(its one of the best US Open finals of all time IMO)shes patient and methodical, beat JJ at her own game playing against a player who had given her some trouble and has at least 3 victories against Serena. They both played exceptional, match was more about winners than errors and great athletic gets, goes to show that a 2 set match can be as classic and enthralling as a 3 set match. Serena showed in this match that there was not anything she couldn't on a tennis court.
