What is ABA?

Dr. Adel Najdowski answers the question, "What is ABA?" This amazing science is being applied to Autism with great results, but what is it and where did it come from?

So what is ABA? Giving abbreviation explanation doesn't provide understanding on what it is all about other than what it is used for...

Neurotipical people cannot teach their form of communication to autistic people as their non autistic behaviour is caused by their neurological wiring.More bluntly they don`t think about what they do, just act according to their neurological program, so do we autistics. It is like there is a computer program who responds a certain way and we want to change that by punishing the computer with a nice slap on the screen when it says something undesirable, or giving it  a cake when it says something desirable, it is a clearly futile action. Just like a program can only be changed by changing the program, take the processor out and put a different program in it. As we are not computers, our processor = our brain cannot be taken out and changed which means our program cannot be :) The right approach is treat autism like a different language, as we autistics are very intelligent but we communicate on a different language!

ABA can be helpful for children with the parent's permission or adults with consent.  Other than that it is unethical to use this coercive method on someone who is not a threat to themselves or someone else.

If she wants to promote this therapy she does it very poorly. Too much bla bla logy and practically zero understanding.

I worked with 1 company all DTT another all NET or PRT on the west coast. 7 companies later as an RBT a mix of both I've observed as the best way to provide ABA services. Without some DTT, "instructional control" is limited. In other words, a child may think when a therapist comes its all fun and no "work" or less preferred activities
