If intent to cause distress is a crime, then my electricity bill should be immediately prosecuted.

Arrest a woman praying but not arrest armed men with machetes

Prison - because words.
Police inaction - because serious crime.

It's mind boggling that we have the police resources to stop people from saying mean words online but we lack the resources to attend actual crimes.

My late father used to say "You can stand on any street corner and say whatever you like ... until people start listening to you."

I wonder how many of the protesters find it offensive to labeled far-right by politicians and journalists?

All the legal niceties do not conceal the rotting corpse of a free Liberal Britain.

Blackbelt accept the fact that free speech is dead in England. It is the nature of people to take offense at political or social opinions of others that contradict theirs. Meaning you go to jail if someone of the protected classes feelings are hurt. That is not freedom of speech but coerced silence.

The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws. Tacitus.

I think Americans and Brits have different ideas of what it means to be free. If you can't say something because it hurts someone's feelings you ARE NOT free. Sad.

Because the UK, in their fight against "fascism", actually became fascist.

400 people got arrested in Russia for saying something online. In the UK we had over 3000 people arrested in the same year. Just let that sink in

"From the river to the sea" was (and perhaps still is) perceived as highly offensive and threatening by the majority of an ethnic group. There was no coercive response to these chants and banners from the authorities.

Sure is odd how hate speech laws seem to be enforced differently depending on who says it against who

Throw out criminals in prison to make room for keyboard warriors. What a joke.

The idea that we should be policing and regulating insults is so dumb

The trouble is, when the police turn a blind eye to anything the apples say or do but then arrest the oranges for being unhappy about it.

SOME freedom of expression, SOMETIMES for SOME people in a country is NOT freedom of expression at all.
