DJI Mini 3 Pro Review After 30 Days Of Flying

When it comes to reviews of a major release like the DJI Mini 3 Pro I don't like to rush out reviews I like to spend a good amount of time using the product. I have been flying the DJI Mini 3 for about 30 days now and I must say it has even outperformed my expectations of this mini sub 250g drone. If a sub 250g drone is important to you, you no longer have to compromise video and photo quality or give up important intelligent flight features. The DJI Mini 3 Pro is just as capable as DJI's high-end drones such as the Mavic 3 or Air 2S. Now like many others I have had range issues and I discuss this in my review as well. This is my review of the DJI Mini 3 after 30 days of incredible flights.

I upgraded from the mini 2 and I absolutely love this drone but I do have a few concerns that I wish DJI would address. number one is the heat issue they get very very hot and charging the battery becomes a problem with heat as well. and the second issue is I really wish there was a way to lock the remote while I'm in follow mode or one of the time lapse video modes or basically anytime I don't want to accidentally bump the drone out of a automated flight path or something else. it'd be great if I could put it in follow mode and then stuff the remote in my backpack even just for a few minutes without worrying about something touching a button or a control stick. even placing the remote on the ground while I get a photograph with no drone in my hand can be challenging because if I even touch the one of the buttons on a rock or something else as I'm placing the remote down on the ground I have to start all over again.

Even in CE mode my Mini 2 hast no problems up to at least 2km. So if you have problems at already few hundred meters, something else goes wrong, maybe it is prefering 5.8 instead of 2.4ghz for too long.

A bit of a concern that the bug has an effect on the signal strength. It sort of infers that in places such as UK where CE mode is enforced that range will be hobbled vs mini 2. What is the concensus & experience on this from other reviewers in Europe?

Like I mentioned in the other video on had the CE issue, so I booted the unit into the DJI Assistant and did a refresh on the firmware. This fixed the problem and it now stays in the FCC mode with increased range.

One controller consideration is whether your phone - WITH CASE - even fits into the controller arms.

For my android phone, it is always a PITA to remove the otterbox case just to connect to the remote.

This issue (and yes, I've broken phones fumbling with them in their 'naked' configuration as I've connected/disconnected it to the controller) AND the phone adaptive display AND overheating here in Southern AZ make the addition of a dedicated screen a 'no brainer' for me.

This range issue is beyond a software bug, I think this is causing the Mini 3 product launch to be a big flop. Each day that goes by without an official fix makes me concerned it's unfixable.

About the <250 grams: EU regulations only honor the sub 250grams feature if the drone doesn't have a camera. I wonder overall whether the <250g means that much anymore since it makes sense to register a drone no matter what its weight.
