Potentially an heroically stupid question but how do you know which colour wire goes in which hole on the connector, or does it not matter? The connector I have doesn’t have live/neutral labelling

Thank-you - very useful video. A question: I am in the UK, replacing a pendant wire with a longer one, to have the lamp lower. I see the electrician (who rewired the whole house a few years ago) used 3-core cable where he wired in the earth/neutral wire at the ceiling rose end, but at the BC lamp holder end there's no sign of this wire - just a "hole" in the cable where it used to be. Is this standard practice and should I copy that? If so, how do I deal with that Earth wire to make it "disappear"? Many thanks.

What kind of bulb is used t this uk socket type? Its different from philippine standard. I bought from a triftshop a lamp that has a socket like this. Nayone care to share

Some thoughts: 1. Push the wires through the holder *before* stripping them: much easier and you don't mess up the twisted wire. 2. Unless you're very confident in what you are doing, that's a good way to cut your finger ends! - put the wire on something like a chopping board to cut the insulation. Better still, use a wire stripper. 3. You don't show the outer sheath of the cable: you really do not want to have such long strands of cable coming out of the holder - they shouldn't be visible at all.

With wires that are thin like those in the video, its better to strip twice as much insulation off the wires, so you can fold the wires over to make a better connection.
