$400, $500-$800 for a prom dress??!! Plus dinner, hair, makeup, nails, shoes and tickets??? NOPE! 😂😂😂

My dress was $45. I looked absolutely STUNNING. It’s not about the money, it’s about how you look and feel. No one knows how much you dress costs unless you tell them.

I'm choking on the $400 to $800 dresses. Starting to understand why people are scooping up Grandma's sewing machines!

😆😆😆😆 My husband said “we are not rich and we are not about to start looking like it on Prom day!”

I get this. Prom can be cheap, yet classy. It doesn’t have to cost your whole life savings. It’s just one night.

She said $800 so casually 😭
Baby NO!!! I choked on my coffee at the mere thought 😂

As a high schooler who just had her senior prom, it’s absolutely not worth it to spend that much money. I got a $10 dress at a local thrift store that supports homeless youth and wore it to prom. I took pictures with my friends at our local park and had a pretty good time. There is no reason to spend that much money for ONE NIGHT.

Who paying $400 to $800 for a prom dress???? I took a magazine clipping of the dress I wanted to seamstress and got it made for $90. Social media has ruined prom🤦🏾‍♀️

We couldn't afford an exspensive dress. We went to a wedding store and I found an elegant white dress/ w black piping on the clearance rack for $19.99. I was embarrassed standing over at the sale rack, while the other girls where at the current style rack. In the end, I recieved multiple compliments all night for my dress! My mom and I ended up nailing it! Thank you mom!!!

$800...that's still a bit much. My senior prom dress was $98 from Dillards and my junior prom dress was 30 from Ross...let me tell you I was still eatin' them chicks up 😂😂

Social media has ruined us… I wouldn’t pay $800 for no damn dress 😅

$400, $500, $800?! That'd better be BEFORE 90% clearance

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks $800 or even $300 is outrageous for a prom dress. Macy’s and JCP have tons of dresses on sale. How about pre-owned online? You can even thrift a prom dress because odds are, it’s only been worn once.
And there are “Cinderella” organizations which provide shoes and accessories as well as the dress for free.

My daughter took a second hand dress and fixed it up with her sewing machine. It was a breath of fresh air and everyone at the dance complimented her on it.

I think it's fine as long as the girls are paying for their own dresses, make up and balloons and crap. I worked on the weekends during high-school and I paid for my prom look

My mom gave me a budget of about $120 and said I could pay the difference if I wanted to go over. Literally just wore a dress from Dillards and took pictures at the park, we had a good time

Girl! You stand firm!! Every year has to be better than the last. We are teaching our kids to have unreasonable expectations. And we are going broke doing it! My friend just took out a $30k mortgage for their daughters quinceanera. She’s failing school and is disrespectful to her parents continually. They live paycheck to paycheck. Stop the insanity!
