This is a short video of my 1978 Yamaha XS750 Triple. I purchased this bike for $400 and rebuilt it from the ground up. Valve job, paint, tires, seals, carbs, honed, powder coat, brakes, bearings, exhaust, seat, forks....fucking everything. I have some pictures at the end that i took throughout the process, they are in no specific order. If you have a triple and have a question, feel free to ask. I have learned alot of tips and tricks during the rebuild. Next up is a 1979 XS650. Enjoy!

Not too bad, a little tricky, I suggest picking up a haynes or clymer manual. Its the bible when it comes to working on these old bikes, you cant go wrong.

I got some of the wheel seals and gaskets from mikesxs.com . Alot of things off ebay, exhaust, fork gaitors, carb kits, master cylinder rebuild kits etc.... Old bike barn also has some good sources of parts.

well, if you have some basic mechanical intuition and feel capable and confident of doing the work yourself you save tons of money . I have yet to tally the total parts cost, but id say i put about a little over a 1200 in parts, but thats accounting for everything (tires, new exhaust, seat, etc. Initially after i bought it, id say i only put about 150 into it just to get it running. When a bikes been sitting, the carburetors are the main culprit. Clean the snot out of them

Working on a 78 XS750. Missing carbs . EGAD!!! Any directions to go by on shopping for some? Absolutely love ur bike. May decide to black the whole thing out. 200 dollars for everyrhing minus seat and carbs and harness chipped Good deal? huh

I bought a 77 XS750 and have been looking for some advice before I start. Who did your motor work ie valve job etc? I hear syncing the carbs can be a pain any tips?

If you don't mind me asking, how much does a rebuild like this cost? I am looking to get an 850 and I'm not really sure if I should get a project bike or something that is rideable from the start.

you will want to get carb kits. Ebay is the cheapest for this, pick up a pack of three for 50$. You will also want to replace the rubber intake boots since they tend to dry up and crack allowing air leaks, 30$.

Did you have to redo second gear? If so, how did you go about it? I've been on different forums and there seems to be numerous ways to attack the problem.
