When it comes to tires, the Toyo Proxes name probably rings a bell. But how much do you actually know about the different types of Proxes designs? Our friends over at Toyo were awesome enough to send us four different tires from the Toyo Proxes line. Today Alex goes over each style, explains their differences, and helps narrow down which one is right for you.

Which tire from the Toyo Proxes line would you run?

I actually run a set of the Toyo proxie all season on my genny. Their not bad and as he says, it’s not the tires fault that the nut behind the wheel wants to drive on a 1k set of wheels like they’re a 3k set of wheels.

I ran the Proxes Sports last year on my E90. 255/35/19 rears and they were grippy when needed and performed better when pushed👌

Pro Tip, if you run a square setup, rotate your tires every 3k-5k miles to make them last the potential mileage claim. Also make sure your tire pressure is correct for your vehicle and try to rebalance them at least once a year.

I don’t think anyone has ever gone to a car meet and complimented someone’s tires. I went to a tire shop about a year ago and I picked the sexiest tires. They were way overpriced and nobody ever complimented me on my tires. So I spent $1200 on tires then sold the car with lots of meat left on those tires. Why isn’t someone selling tires with raised colored letters? Instead people are glueing cheap vinyl stickers to tires.

I can definitely vouch for the 4 plus! It's rated for 50k, but I only got 40k out of my set.... After regularly hooning around, sliding, doing burnouts, driving spiritedly, doing more sliding. They really are a wonderful tire. Grippy when it's dry, and don't kill you when it's wet. Love them, and will continue to run them. I'm sure if I drove like a normal human they would well exceed the 50k. 2014 BRZ for reference.

I had the r1r's and used them year round. I was very impressed with their wet weather and snow handling. Not advisable but I felt way comfortable going 90 with about an inch and a half slush on the freeway. They cleared out the slush and wet and where you could tell the tire width of those ahead behind me it looked like i was running two foot wide tires. It just ate it up.

Just purchased Toyo Proxes 4 Plus for my 2014 Mustang GT. I need a good 'high performance' tire that can cut through rain. These replaced my Mickey Thompsons. I now seem to have better traction in the rain than I used to have on dry roads. So far so good.

And don't forget that Nitto is Toyo's American division. I use Nitto Motivos and they're great so far. 60, 000 mile warranty as well

My 2c: T1R is a nearly 20 year old tire design. A solid sport tyre that is often pretty affordable compared to most competitors. Also comes in a ridiculous amount of sizes. However there are usually better options available.
R1R has a reputation for being a relatively daily drivable trackday tyre. Is becoming less common now though.

I have gone from factory Dunlop 205/45/17, on new fiat 124 spider, to 245/40/17 proxes 4+. Like night and day!! Driving Saskatchewan to Oregon/Cali coast is silent and well manored. And tons of grip to become a 16 year old car theif, when you get to the right roads. Ie. #1, legett, to the coast. They are thumpy when cold till tire warms up. Other than that, perfect tire!

That Subaru rust thing hurt me man, my Legacy is sitting in the garage right now with a holey quarter panel. Feelsbadman.

I used to have the Proxes 4 plus. I wore the living hell out of them. I’m at 15k miles. I beat them through canyon runs, aggressive driving, and just plain out dumb driving. When new they were really sticky. I’m getting the Proxes Sport installed as I found them for 110 !! I’ll update how they drive soon

I'm more than pleased from T1R 215/40/17 with some moderate stretch on 7.5j wheels in front and driven at -5 camber. Walls are more than hard enough to keep the car steady and not ruin the tires, i was thinking they are runflat until i saw they aren't few months ago. They would have lasted probably 2 years before the need to switch them because of camber wear, but i had bad alignment lol and one almost shredded, but that's whole other story... My oh my.... the front of the car with coilovers camber and those babies was sticking to the road even in 170-180km/h speed cornering. I will buy new ones this year for sure!

More of this please....

Please include all the ranges too.

For example finding 14 inch tires are hard (classic imports) and finding wide 15 inch tires is also a challenge.

From a guy with an mr2 on 15x8 wheels...

Again thanks

After seeing the Toyo official web, I still wonder why the Sport is advertised to have the same level of performance compared to R1R, but with better comfort and tread life yet it's priced cheaper.

My wife needed new tires on her car and I had a set of r1r's in my shed. So a little non turbo 2.0 Mazda 3 has some r1r's on it and boy does it grip.
