After being acquired by GitHub last month, the first major change has been announced... and it's a good one.

The free tier of GitHub now includes an unlimited number of private code repositories (and public as well), previously a Pro+ level feature.

Well this is actually good news. Thank God. No one can see now that I left most of my projects abandoned.

"We recommend repositories be kept under 1GB each. This limit is easy to stay within if large files are kept out of the repository. If your repository exceeds 1GB, you might receive a polite email from GitHub Support requesting that you reduce the size of the repository to bring it back down." from the github "What is my disk quota" page.

This is great news for individual developers but for small teams gitlab is still way better from a cost/feature perspective where you get access to the majority of team features for private repos for free.

Regarding the code review thing on github mentioned at the end it lets collaborators make comments on the content of commits on a line-by-line basis

A lot of companies use GitHub Enterprise or Server. My company (day job, not game dev) uses it. I don't know what we currently pay, but I do recall that our GHE license was around 40k USD/year a few years back.

Well, that's a punch in GitLab's face.

Private repos is the main reason I started with Gitlab instead of Github. Don't really have any motivation to reconsider at this point though.

It is common sense that if your project is massive then a self-hosted git server is the way to go. This is an encouraging move by MS, and looking forward to positive changes in the future.

"After being acquired by GitHub" Microsoft?

This is really awesome, I like what Microsoft is doing with their projects but GitLab still have GitLab CI, you can't use Travis CI with private repositories.

When I saw the title I kinda freaked out.
I was like :" I'm sure there is something behind that free unlimited private repos and it is not good... " but it seems Allright in the way you present it.

Microsoft is up to something for them to be so nice and them to give unlimited repositories

Losing the "Advanced Code Review Tools" when switching to Free just means you lose access to protected branches, pages and wikis, and repository insights in private repositories only.

Microsoft has made a bold move, the main reason most people still uses other git repositories instead github was the free private tier, now this is gone. Now gitlab and bitbucket must do a better offer to compete, maybe increasing the repository size for instance.

Dang, when I just started using Fossil! I have to give it to MS these days and may have to start using it more.

One gigabyte limit? Collab has a 1 gig limit and I ran out of space after two commits. This doesn't help at all.

I've always wondered how GitHub became the biggest player in the Git hosting market since I've been using Atlassian's free private hosting on BitBucket for what must be pushing over 10 years at this point... What's presumably so much better about GitHub?

So I gotta still keep using GitLab instead! Github its quite cool but I prefer Gitlab - Fullfree - Not limit on repos o collaborators and I can even link Github Client to manage my source control projects. Thanks for the update!

Hey bro i have an idea for you to make a video out of it

Make a video: tips and tricks to sell products on marketplaces

(dont introduce marketplaces or compare them... Give us tip to sell better on those marketolaces)

Like... :
1_ advertising... Its very important and it should grab veiwers so those veiwers may become customer like...i want to sell landscpae pack i know that i should make a video about it and use correct lighting... I have to talk about amount of assets and materials and tectures i have to show some lf them(best of them) maybe i play it for a little bit
Show them that they can change those materials and get another result... Etc.
2_ pricing... I saw different tyoes of landscaoe pack they are super amazing and super realistic they use great AAA apps like substance apps, 3ds max, maya, soeed tree.... Amd they are super expensive.... At least 115$
Well i dont have acces to them but i have some alternatives.... I cant make super realistic... But i can make good landscape/asset/materials.... Idk how much i should sell them.... I know i cant sell 100 usd because its not worth it... And i cant sell them very cheap...because people think its trash so it should be some where in middle
Well i know just these 2....thats why im asking you to make a video and give us more tips.... (imagine you dont sell anything on any marketplace.... Thats mean i waste 5min of my life😂😂)

1GB limit? Pathetic. Visual Studio Team Services hosts the Windows repo which is 300GB.
