Photography Finds Location Of 1960s Postcards To See How They Look Today

Not long ago an old matchbook laying on photographer Pablo Iglesias Maurer's desk caught his eye. Or rather, it was the postcard-like picture on it, of a resort complex built in the 1960s. It got Pablo wondering how the place looked now, and the answer has led him to make an amazing photo series called Abandoned States.

The picture came with the title How to Run A Successful Golf Course, but when Maurer got to the place, it was clear the owner of Penn Hills Resort didn't follow that advice. He pointed the camera at the decaying building at roughly the same spot and did a '5-decades-after' shot of the place.

Ever since then, Pablo was hooked. He ordered more 60s postcards from eBay and started going around the country capturing these once beautiful buildings that now stand abandoned only as faint memories of what once was.

"The postcards, have their own haze—the places were never as nice as they look. I often struggle to get the two images to line up, as well. But time blurs the difference, and brings everything into focus."

When we pass old, run down buildings/houses my grandpa always says that they were someone's dream at one point.

Being 63 and remember so many cool places that existed when I was a kid, this makes me feel terribly 😢.

These places use to have life in them. Now they're just left there, abandoned. It's actually kind of sad.

I love how the 1960’s camera makes the pictures look warm and cozy

There are people who probably have fond memories of these places that probably won't believe what happened to these

I wish more people cared more about old historic places and the history behind them. I've always been fascinated with how places looked back in the day compared to now, even when I used to Urban explore abandoned Hospitals, Asylums & Prisons it just intrigues me to see how things looked from our past and to really think about how lively this Vacant building used to be full of people. All that energy and emotion stays in those walls and sometimes you can feel it like walking back in time! But nowadays everything ends up getting tore down to put up some condos or a highway completely forgetting the past and our history!

What I learned from this video is that back in the 60’s, people loved to swim

This is honestly pretty sad to watch. All the memories these people made at these places, all gone. Just imagine ur grandma and grandpa coming back to visit, thinking it's all still there. Just to find out that its all brown, dirty and abandoned.

It is depressing to think that one day all the places in which you hang out with your friends will probably look like this.

Last year, the house I grew up in as a child was demolished, due to the town turning the property into a park and ride. I drove by recently during a road trip to visit family, and it was so weird not seeing the house there anymore. It was twenty six years ago since we moved out of that house and I still miss it sometimes. A Lot of good memories there. It was old and needed alot of work, but it still served its purpose.

This footage is quite depressing. It shows how the places in 1960s that were full of life are now abandoned or not properly taken care of.

Aside from sadness and nostalgia, whoever did this, is brilliant and amazing!

Looks like we’re living in a dystopian world now when every ”now” pic feels like darkness.
