When I was your age I figured out slowing down to catch winter bass all by myself. I'd use just the tiny jig and grub from a beetlespin blugill sized spinner. Fishing from the shore I'd count down as the lure sank. Hits were almost imperceptible. I'd use an ultralight rod and four pound test. But winter bass congregate in large numbers, and aren't easily spooked, so a savvy fisherman can catch a bunch when they are located.

And I am adept at most kinds of fishing, from tying my own flies for trout, to pursuing bass with artificial lures, to the intricacies of live bait fishing, to surf and offshore saltwater fishing. Slowdown is great advice, year round in many settings. Guys trample up and down a trout stream. Yet if a good fly or bait fisherman finds a good hole or run, you can take all the fish you want in a very small area. True with boat fishing too. Anchoring in a good spot allows the fish to relax, and you can make large catches from one spot. Slowing down and observing what is going on around us and in the water, makes us more efficient fisherman. Have you ever seen a great blue heron get in a hurry? Me either. ;)

I used to only fish ponds and would crush it. Then I fished my first real tournament at Lake Fork on my friend’s Skeeter. To say I was humbled is an understatement. Lakes are so much harder to fish due to the pressure. I just never thought about it before that.

I was fishing the same setup with the green pumpkin worm, Texas rig the other day and landed a few decent large mouth. The only difference was I had an 1/8th oz weight on. Shout out from NC!

Great video man, gotta be more careful with your releases though! It’s veryyy stressful for bass to be caught in the winter time so taking a second to hold them in the water before release to let them reacclimate can really go a long way towards increasing survival rates and preserving the sport. Keep at the videos though!, tight lines!

Gotta let the chew it for a bit, when they decide to swim away and you feel that tension start reeling bow the rod then set the hook

You are moving up brotha, love the winter tips and struggle scenes. Most youtubers don't show how much they really struggle to get on some fish.
I live in WV it's very similar here even being in the northeast.

Can you do a overall tackle box for spring/summer where it’s literally every 🔥 bait that can be used in lakes, ponds, and rivers and it’s just like 2 boxes one for soft plastics and another for all hard baits like crank baits/jigs/frogs and so on

even in the summer slow down as well, i fish very slow, it takes me like 5mins to bring in my cast, sometimes a big bass is following my bait sometimes up to the bank.
