That has a mechanical fuel pump. Depress gas pedal once more while turning engine and she should start with the choke on (manual choke?)
Electric choke. Depress gas pedal once before turning(sets choke) engine and once more while turning engine. At least that is how all my old cars worked. Never had a hard start using those methods.
I think I like the 50's Oldsmobiles better than the Chevy's. They had more available power and cleaner styling.
