Akrotiri was an affluent Bronze Age town in today's Santorini, in the Aegean Sea, Greece. It was buried in volcanic ash sometime between 1627 and 1600 BCE. That's about 3500 years ago from today, and about 1500 years before a similar volcanic eruption buried Pompeii which is better known. Both towns were buried suddenly, so they give us a snapshot of the what life was like at the time. Great reconstruction! thank you!

thank you so much. We were just there today and this really gives a full picture of what it would have looked like thousands of years ago.

Its kind of heart rending to think of the people of Thera living happily in their seafront paradise, building their beautiful homes--all right on top of a giant undersea volcano.
