Introduction to PGP

Have you ever wondered how exactly encrypted email works? Maybe not, but I still think it's worth knowing. PGP is an old but still widely used technology, and this video will explain how it works as well as how to use it yourself (and why you may not want to).

Thank you for the video, very helpful. At the end you said not to use PGP with existing providers such as GMail & Yahoo Mail. Which secure email provider do you recommend we use? Countermail seems like the ONLY truly private, secure provider on the market today; however, it's only open to newcomers via an invite code from an existing user. What alternative email providers do you recommend, please? Thanks! 👍🏻

You said there is a "New" option on top on GPG for Mac. I couldn't find any option to create a message and encrypt it. How do I encrypt and decrypt a plain text message without creating a file?

You can do all this in Mozilla Thunderbird with only a few clicks. Much easier than using command line.

Small note some email system once you decrypt you email the system stores the clear text version of the email not the encrypted email.
(I know MS outlook used to do this)
