Undervolting is really popular for the RTX 3000 series, but it's actually a really good option for GTX cards too! If you do it properly, you’re gonna lose virtually 0 performance or even get an increase, while dramatically reducing heat and power consumption. Today we're featuring a GTX 1080 Asus RoG Strix!

Very helpful, even though I dont have a 1080. Your 3060 video helped me out a ton though, and these vids are a great short intro to MSI Afterburner OC/UVing.

Asus Rog Strix 1080:
900mV - 1911Mhz & memory 5300mhz.

Gpu temp: 71°->59°

Cinebench R24: 3909->4189

Forza Horizon 5:
96-104 -> 105-118

And finally no coil whine sound!

Thank you very much!

The curve editot automatically adjust the marker points after I apply the 1900 at 900. Am I missing something in the settings?

I did this and picked up 10fps for my 1% lows in RDR2 at 1440p high settings. Only picked up 2 Average FPS, but my wattage went from 240-250watts down to 190-200 watts and my temps went from 84C down to 70C!!! Thank you!!!

I dont get it. I have an 1080 ti Rog strix OC edition and I can only go 900 @ 1800. after benchmarking with undervolt, I get -10FPS and higher temps.
If I turn on MSI afterburner, and set fans to 75% i get +10FPS and cooler temps.

why is this?

I tried on my EVGA 1080 Ti 925mV @ 1911mhz - mem + 87 5592mhz but, I always use Valley instead of Heaven. Valley is from 2013 while Heaven is from 2009 and our cards are from 2017. Valley will pick up faster than Heaven if is an issue with the the undervolting. VRAM temps max 52 C air cooled, deshrouded card. GPU goes to max 54 C but, I don't care of GPU temps as long as VRAM temps are ok.

Good video, more informative than others.

I will suggest not to boost VRAM if temps on memory junction are too high or if you don't have a sensor for memory junction. Usually VRAM temps are 15-20 C higher than GPU but if thermal pads are dried out than can be more and is risky if you can't see the VRAM actual temps.

Thanks to this video, now i can survive with R5 2600 OC 4.1GHz and Strix 1080 Advanced Gaming 8GB on a fcked Cooler Master MWE 550W:
1911Mhz & 900mv
Temp max: 70 -> 61
TDP: 185W -> 142W

More importantly, no graphic card shutdown because of lack of power when heavy gaming anymore!

These results are unreal for my 1080Ti. In GTA 4 on PC 1440p I was getting temps sky rocketing as high as 79c MAX but usually hovered around 70-75c 95% of the time. I undervolted it to 1852, as 1900 was freezing and crashing in game. I use Fan Control software to control my fan speeds with an aggressive curve and re pasted both my CPU and GPU with Arctic MX-6 about 6 months ago. GTA 4 and PUBG were the only games I ever played that ever pushed my PC to those high temps, no clue why as my case has really good air flow with plenty of fans set up correctly. Anyways this helped a TON. GTA 4 now runs 60-61c TOPS at all times with an OC of +150 as nothing else will take. My 1080Ti is weird AF. Thanks a bunch buddy! Really appreciate you making this video.

MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X:

900mV - 1930Mhz (Afterburner shows 1924Mhz at load stable) & 5400Mhz memory;

GPU temps lowered to 58° from 67° (fan curve is set to stable 50% or 1300RPM when 45° mark is reached);

And yeah, as mentioned in previous comments, coil whine is gone, which is very nice. Hope this undervolted GPU will work for my parents as good and long as it did for me (2017 to 2024, with 2000Mhz OC and 5400Mhz memory).

Thank you for so short and yet very informative guide!

Thank you for this video my friend. I inherited a PC with this graphics card (GTX 1080ti) from my brother in 2022 because it kept crashing and he just gave up on it and built a new PC and gave me this one it crashes a lot for example I will play Starwars Jedi Fallen Order for like a half hour to a hour, get to a cutscene and it will crash, it always crashes on the cutscenes I’m running it on all high settings and it does good for a long time and just crashes. Gonna try this out thanks again got a sub from me!
