Is the Audi S5/S4 actually too good? | ReDriven Audi S5/S4 (B9 - 2017-2021) used car review.

You could be forgiven for thinking this week's car is a touch too new for ReDriven, but some examples of this iteration of Audi's S5 and S4 are pushing 4 years old.

The fortunate thing (though not if you own one) is that much in line with other Euro cars, depreciation has been an absolute killer, with some dropping their price by nearly 40% in just a few years.

That means, if you're after one, you can get a very new(ish), very good(ish) car for 10s of thousands less than you may have otherwise paid just a short time ago.

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

The S5 Sportback is one of the most beautiful car ever IMHO.

This may be confirmation bias since I own one but this car is an animal in Dynamic mode... Its an absolute weapon

7:26 “seated heats” I had to rewind that to make sure I wasn’t having a stroke. Coincidentally that’s what I call them in my car.

Did a lot of research before getting my first Audi and fulfilling a dream. My 2018 S5 sportback is a dream come true and has been incredibly worth it from loading the car from moving, camping trips, snow/ice conditions, and of course pleasure. Love it. I want more of them now

I’m from Aus also, and this is my first video I’ve seen from Redriven… I must say, I’m really amazed with the amount of detail put into this review. It’s actually one of the best of seen on YouTube and those comments from the mechanic was invaluable! I’m subscribing! Looking forward to seeing more of these videos.

Got myself a 2018 S5 Prestige earlier this year with >5000 miles on it. Absolutely love it, and I don't ever want to give it up!

I've admired A5s for many years and last year I was looking for an AWD sports car and bought a convertible 2018 S5. I LOVE that car! Power when you need it, great tech, and beautiful looks. A couple issues covered by warranty- a window regulator and burnt out light on the start button. Otherwise no issues. Great on fuel with highway driving, but if you drive fast on regular streets it can use fuel fast. Highly recommended if you need a small performance car.

Honestly the b9 s5 is absolutely astonishing, I have the SB and it provides literally everything you'd ever ever want in one package, truly amazing 👏 cannot go wrong here, it's beyond "jack of all trades"

I have a 2018 S5 Sportback and I absolutely LOVE it! I have the drive mode set to "Individual" with transmission and engine in "dynamic". I have found that the suspension and steering in dynamic is just too harsh. To fix that, I have them set in "auto" mode. When the car "senses" it's being driven hard it automatically puts the steering and suspension in "dynamic". For cruising around town though, the steering and suspension is a lot more mild in "auto". I think it's in "comfort" until you mash it. Also, in "dynamic", if you select "sport" mode, the car opens up the exhaust valves and really makes some great noises on acceleration at WOT. However, in "dynamic/sport" mode, it will only shift up to 7th gear. So, if you're just cruising on the interstate, take it out of "sport" mode to get 8th gear and optimum fuel economy. I have gotten close to 400 miles on a full tank on the interstate. Love this car.

Great review! After owning a S5 for several months, I can tell you every point you make is spot-on. And it's an absolute blast to live with.

Have had an original B8 S5 (V8, auto) for the last 4 years. Amazing car to drive but oh lawdy, servicing nightmare! Fuel pumps, injectors, and even an intake manifold failure has added up to a fortune in repairs.

But when it works, it's perfection. Much more power than you can reasonably use and so comfortable on a long drive. Seats are the best I've sat in and at 14 years old the interior still looks new in many places. The ZF auto is next level good and much easier to live with than the later v6's DCT.

Sadly a baby on the way means it has to make way for another dadwagon and despite the heartache (and definitely the wallet-ache) it's given me I'll really miss it.

Also imo the original design is still the prettiest and the V8 can't be beaten for noise and character.

good overall assessment. I traded up my 2017 b8.5 a5 for a 2018 s5 coupe. An upgrade in every way, and I didnt buy it for how much it will be worth later. I plan to keep it forever as my toy if it holds up mechanically. Great tech, lux, sound, and fun as shit to drive. Also, I have a good mechanic I know and trust who will always be honest about repairs and such. I got RS wheels, and RS grille, and all the features, so I have a slightly slower RS5 for 30k cheaper. Works for me!

You sold me a seated heats….. I want one …😂. This is just my opinion, and I am not wanting to inflame any owners, these cars are amazing to look at and drive and the interiors are fantastic, it’s just really disappointing that as a company, let’s just say they haven’t behaved in a way that fits the image. Great review 👍🏻

Bought a 2018 Audi S5 in 2017 when it only had 5 miles. I have over 69k miles on mine now. It is a wonderful car!

B9 is an awesome engine to tune. You have nearly 150 more hp and over 200 more tq at your fingertips with just a ECU flash and fuel change.

The point of reference by excellence for absolutely all types of vehicles that I have tried to buy and every time the videos have all the pieces of information I'm looking for. Keep up the good work, and let's get these guys to 100k before 2023 for their fantastic work. Hats off to ya'll 🧡

Same here in NZ, those turbocharged or supercharged Audis get upto the limit so quickly you almost feel like you are overshooting and never fully able to use the full potential. Driving a b8/8.5 RS5 gives the best of both worlds I feel since you work hard for the power through high rpm if you want rapid, but slower work can also feel just as dramatic since the V8 provides such a great soundtrack for all driving styles.

The S5 has character for sure. There aren't many on the road. Rarity is value, too. Do not overlook its clever turbo engine (not supercharged used in the earlier S5 earlier). The new engine blower sits in between the V6 that has so effectively got rid of the "turbo lag". Feel like driving a n/a engine car. The Quattro, of course, is Audi's trade mark ensuring road grip at all times.
