HAUNTED VICTORIA: Ghosts of Craigdarroch Castle

A classic haunted Victoria building, the Craigdarroch Castle was constructed in the late 19th century as a family residence for the wealthy coal baron Robert Dunsmuir and his wife Joan. Robert died in April 1889, 17 months before construction on the castle was completed. The building later served as a military hospital, college, offices, and a conservatory, before it was re-purposed into a historical museum in 1979. However, visitors to this historic building may just encounter one of the many spirits living within these walls.

I worked there in the 80's. I once personally experienced an overwhelming scent of candles in the early morning on the second floor. No visitors in at that time and all open flames of any kind were expressly forbidden.

This building is defintly haunted ..me and my ex wife were trying to take photos of the buiding. Outside our cameras were working fine..before entering i joked with my wife.that maybe we will take photos of ghosts..when we went in the building both our cameras stopped working..we even went into the gift shop and bought fresh batteries..still did not work..only after we left two hours later..they started to work again!

I used to live near Craigdarroch Castle in the 90s and went there with my daughter on a school field trip. This was back in the day before digital cameras, and I took a photo of the outside with one of those disposable cameras you have to take in to get the print photos developed. When we got the photos back, we were shocked to find a white haze in the window that looked like a woman in a white dress looking out at us!

I'm from Nanaimo, I lived in a house that is no longer standing on Campbell street, it was almost as old as the castle and had beautiful stained glass and woodwork in it, it was torn down and is no longer there, there was a ghost in it, he was a WW1 soldier, I could tell because I was interested in military history and read alot of books about it. My Parents left one of the rooms (the master bedroom) empty soon after we moved there in the house because of this entity. It wasn't a mean ghost but they didn't want to see him all the time and us leaving the room alone seemed to stop the hauntings and we lived there for a few years.

I could see this place being spooky to visit in person. The mounted animal head reminded me of Ace Venture When Nature Calls, "This is a lovely room of death..." 🧐🤔😁🛡️🙋

I've been here 2xs. Both times a certain spot on the top of the stairs, I get nauseous, light headed. I step back im good. Step forward feel weird.

The floors are sooo creaky in Craigdarroch. I've gone there for a few themed movie nights in the attic. Cool place to visit!

I witnessed shadows moving there that I couldn't explain. It happened the entire time I was there, and was only visible through my phone camera on screen. when I re watched the footage, there were no shadows.

Wonder if anything happened while they were filming. I have seen the movie. I wasn't aware the movie was set here. I am looking forward to visiting this castle.
