92 year old widow friend of mine. Her late husband in 1983 had 7200 volts go through his body for 60 seconds. Similar situation. His deadmans stick failed. He lost his left hand. Burned the tires off of his truck and had an exit out his torso and elbow.

He lived and went back to work 5 months later with a hook prosthesis.

Electricity and lineman deserve RESPECT.

I give so much props to lineman!!!! Im just a regular commercial electrician and the stuff they do I think it's crazy. Not to mention they are the true First Responders as well. Not to mention balls of steel

Holy I'm a commercial electrician and my dad worked for Dominion energy he was there for 30 years and he always used to ask me. Why don't you come over here man you would make good money. And my response was I don't like the explosions from three phase 480 why would I want to deal with 19, 900 or Even up to 210, 000 volts. The real answer is I can somewhat make a mistake at my job and live but Lyman most of the time they make a mistake and that's it. So you guys have my All of my respect, you guys are the true forgotten first responders

The issue is he didn’t close the door all the way so he picked up load when he originally closed it then the door dropped which drew an arc. The fuse didn’t blow. This is why we use a load buster when we open load bearing fuses and switches.

That was not phase to phase, that was opening under load because he waited too long holding it closed when it didn’t catch/lock…….all the air conditioners refrigerators water heaters alarm clocks cell chargers and such had time to “start” so yes big arc from in rush current………phase to phase would’ve been a much larger fire ball and no dude in bucket probably wouldn’t have been okay

It only takes one big fuse that sets car alarms off to get someone to start using a longer stick. Thats how I learned haha.

Surprised that bucket lift can hold that man up there with the balls he has. Respect!

I've pulled thousands of fuses or jacks on 13 kv and never had an issue like this until I fused a transformer with internal fault, that shit blew like a cannon 😅

You fools need a longer stick. No way I'd close that in that close. Glad everyone was good though.

That’s why you don’t close cutout that close in a bucket 🤦‍♂️, but a good video to show an apprentice.

Before connect the jumpers I always close the barrel first to make sure it fits without a problem then I open the barrel again then connect the jumpers.

Man I got the up most respect for these guys. I don’t got big enough cajones to do this. I get nervous just plugging something up to an old outlet

That’s a bad idea man…that load broke in his face. Glad he’s ok!

Be careful out there and stay safe on the job, you should have safety gloves and better equipment for your protection.
