i think BR is genuinely impressed by the performance and effort of kavin, that is why the movie is getting all the praise from him

This movie didn't work out for me and I don't think it will for many others as well. The single shot scene really felt they were trying to show off their technical strengths and nothing more, it simply irritated a lot of us. There were lot of unnecessary scenes like the love portions, the hero simply giving advice about feminism, friendship and whatnot while he himself is a self centered prick who did care a bit about his romantic partners or parents. Though the plotline feels good as a one liner, it did not feel as good while watching. This movie is just a different combination of reels and shorts that u see on youtube and insta.

The mass screenplay imagined as a giant tongue licking the hero's arse 🤣🤣🤣. Baddy that is a line for the ages!

Haven't seen BR this excited for a movie in a long time. This review makes me to watch the movie, more than the trailer does!

Totally disagree with BR after a long time. Most incoherent movie in recent times. Pathetic screenplay without any impact. Felt like watching a serial. The movie was a total crap. Not worth the money for theatre watch.

I'm sorry Mr. Rangan. I trusted your review and convinced 10 members of my family to watch the film. I feel it is important that I mention that their ages range from 52 to 17 because not one of them (including myself) them liked the film. The movie was fraught with cliches starting from the insufferable 80s style college romance scenes(which made my 52 year old uncle wince). The rest of the movie in general wasn't particularly palatable. The smart looking guy with a sidekick for comical relief, the beautiful girl in college(made obvious by make-up) rejecting the chocolate boy every other girl's crushing on, the latter who guilt this girl into loving him, the hero beating up the guys who made fun of 'his girl' etc etc suggest extremely lazy writing. Personally, I found the montage scenes where Kavin didn't have to speak, less intolerable.
He seems to be a good actor and I liked the character whenever he spoke less. The movie on the whole doesn't live up to the hype you have given. There were so many moments during the movie when my cousin next to me went "Unna kolla poren da!" Recommending them this film without watching it myself first led to me completely losing my credibility. This movie just doesn't work. Certainly not in 2024..

I think Baddy is imagining the script and the waitage it delivered while reading. But the movie fails to live up to the hype and obviously the title. It's all confusing put together right from the title. If it's titled STAR, we need to witness the STAR's rise in the field. Not his love failures.
This Movie should have been titled FAMILY STAR

First of all lets respect BR as a person. No nick names, no accusations of getting paid etc. BR has made it clear a 100 times that his fundamental job is to say whether the film worked for him or not. He didnt recommend that you watch it or avoid it. He takes 10mins or whatever to say Why this film worked for him. Dont blame BR if you didnt like the movie or whatever. There are hundreds of other reviewers whom you can watch and decide. BR is a fearless, orginal guy who has been himself when he reviewd this film. Thats it!

Constant follower of BR for his review. Mostly he conveys what i feel. To be honest the only critic i watch. But star review was shocking to hear. Poor writing. Sorry.

BADDY clearly said about it in the thumbnail & the duration of the video. so no need to watch the full video. We understand Baddy ☠️

Yet to watch the movie, and it's 9:57 long review from BR, so now I really freaking voracious for it.

Not sure if BR is talking about the same movie I just saw. Convenient writing, passable acting, 80s love scenes and insincere dialogues. The list goes on. I am baffled by this strictly positive review.

I watched the movie today after watching your comments on Star in your recent interview at the Medai, I believe, followed by the first few minutes of your review and in spite of the comments on this video. I'm glad I did! It was directed very well, Kavin was unbelievable in the role and Yuvan's bgm was top-notch! Elan's direction and staging was what really made the movie for me, as even scenes where you kind of know what's going to happen were still shot in a fresh way that it interesting to watch.

I don't think it's a perfect movie though. I think the screenplay could have been better - I felt a lot of the character development for Kavin or the opportunities that come his way come rather too quickly. For example, we spend time to get into his head space and experience what he's experiencing, but once he makes a decision to do something, we immediately get to the results of that decision. For instance, towards the climax of the movie after the excellent scene between Kalai and his dad, the fruits of the realization come immediately, within 2-3 minutes. Similarly, in the Bombay portion, he struggles to get into the acting school but then within 2-3 minutes (of screen time), he's got an offer to act in a movie. I get that I don't want all the melodrama of the "struggles", but while a character deciding to do something can be a pivotal moment in the story, there's still a long way to go before that actually transforms the character's life and I'd have liked to see some of that.

However, it's been a long time since I've been to the theatres for a Tamil movie with my parents (first since PS2, though I had watched Por Thozhil later) and we really enjoyed the movie, so thanks BR!

Seriously how come you are praising this film!!! I am surprised how you appreciate this film which did not even connect with the audience..The acting was great..However I was not able to feel the hero's struggle.. There was no continuity in the scenes.. Only the acting and the climax had saved the film..
