I love how she says “take a moment” to go through those PDF files 😂😂😂 For me that would take a couple of days at a minimum!

Something I wish I knew - people will pay a lot of money for vintage garment patterns. I threw out boxes of old Vogue patterns from the 80’s last year when I moved then found out they sell for up to $100 each on Etsy.

This is going to be so difficult for me. I have files and files of patterns and I will never make 99% of them if I'm honest. I need to put my Big Girl Knickers on and get rid of them!

I was shocked at how many patterns I actually have hiding in all kinds of places. One thing I have started doing is when I finish using a pattern, I ask myself if I would ever make it again. If the answer is no, then I take it to my next quilt club meeting and pass it on. If no one wants it, it goes immediately into the give away.

Ok. This is so hard for me because I have boxes of garment patterns. Some purchased. Some free. Some given to me. Even though I will never do most of them, it’s gonna be hard to get them out of the house. I’ve decided to remove 5 at a time. That way I’m not overwhelmed, sad, or stubborn and just quit the challenge. Wish me luck.

I’ve made such great strides. Have a box of books and a box of patterns to share with others. Feels wonderful to be getting my space decluttered and organized. Didn’t get a chance to sew today, but got a small container of scraps cut up and into their new homes. This will have to be an annual event. Thanks Karen.

Seeing this a day late. Couldn't find it yesterday. But went a bit further with my declutter challange in getting my patterns organized. Went ahead and matched patterns with fabric.
On my computer made a list of my Projects that I need/want to do planned over the last 16 months, in order of getting them done.
1) Items Ready to Quilt - 6.
2) Items ready to be sandwiched - 2.
3) Items that just need borders - 3.
4) Projects started but need to be completed - 6.
5) Projects to be started (those that I have the fabric for and pattern picked out) -18.
Oh my!!! And there is fabric I bought because "It's so pretty". This doesn't include my garment projects, purse/bag projects or rope bowls!!
Need to go on a Fabric Diet for 2024!!! No new fabric till done with these. Thank you Karen for helping me put my arms around what needs to get done.
Hope this list helps someone else.

Every few weeks I scan through my digital patterns while watching TV with my husband. Most of them were free downloads and invariably I think "WHY?" about some and delete them. Others are favorably brought to mind and I add them to the 2024 list of possible quilts to make. Thanks, Karen!

We moved 6 yrs ago, I did this pattern, book cleaning then, had already moved them once, those I didn’t use by the 2 nd move, I gave those away. While I find once in a while I am looking for a pattern I really don’t miss them. I’m almost 73 and have found cursed utube has more things I want to make than my mind can handle.😅😂😊

This is my 3rd year doing the declutter challenge. It gets easier each year as I learn to keep items within their assigned boundaries.

I did a serious purge of my patterns with last year’s declutter challenge and whenever I was tempted to buy a new pattern, I looked at my schedule realistically. If I could actually pencil in the sewing time to do that particular pattern, I’d buy it. And when my sewing calendar was filled, I passed. Last year for the first time, I finished more projects than ever by being organized. So thank you for leading us through this again. This year I’ll focus on letting go of those patterns in books that I realize I’ll never get to, but someone in my guild might enjoy. ❤

Even as a new sewer I have amassed a lot of patterns

I'm a few days behind, but slugging through. Wow what a huge pile of printed out patterns I found! I had an idea they were there but still stunned at the volume in every corner. One drawer was hard to open and close now I know it was the weight of printed patterns stuck at the bottom. It glides free now! Thanks, Karen!!

Years ago I organized my paper patterns and books into those magazine holders. One for paper piecing, one for curves piecing, one for quick, easy, string, scrap & pre cuts, one for microwave bowl, tea cozy, cozys, etc. & misc., two for more challenging. Very helpful.

Aaahhhh! I knew this particular challenge would be a real challenge for me. I, like many sewists, collect soon many patterns. Last year's challenge helped me toss paper patterns that I also have pdfs of. I still have a 4"binder of paper patterns! I guess it's time to face the truth about just how many of those I really think I'll make. Thank you for encouraging us to be honest with ourselves.

Asking the question ' do you want to make it' has changed my thinking completely. I've just put 3.8 kilograms of paper patterns in the recycle bin. There was a mixture of quilting, embroidery, knitting, cross stitch, bags and smocking patterns in folders - I even had notes from my first quilting classes from 1998
These folders were not touched during last year's challenge and I can't believe I've been soooo strong. Thank you Karen

I did a big craft pattern and craft book purge purge when we moved a couple of years ago and I kept only 1/2 a shelf for quilting patterns. I went through my other crafts books today and only pulled one off the shelf. I haven’t purchased any patterns since last years’s challenge so I feel like thisis all ok.

The. I went to my sewing and crafts pattern stash, and I haven’t bought any in the past couple of years BUT I knew it was time to do another declutter. I looked at each of them and was able to part with about 1/4 of them that I don’t think I will ever make. Happily I can now fit all of these sewing patterns on one shelf now.

It was a productive day for me after all 😊
