As someone descended from those very same Comanche, I can tell you that violence and the taking of land from tribes by the various other tribes of North America was a very common practice, long before the first Spaniard set foot on the continent.
Our people were not peaceful & stoic, as led to believe.

This was both informative and fascinating. I live in Oklahoma and have spent much time in Texas going to different historical sites where both the Apache and the Commanche tribes made history, but I had missed this particular story. I really enjoyed it. I appreciate your hard work and attention to detail.

Thanks to your channel ive come to love stories about Herman Lehmann. I'd never heard of him two weeks ago. Also the details you include about the native tribes, their strengths, ingenuity and strategies, are briiliant. Bravo on your storytelling talent.

Absolutely fascinating, how great is learning of history!!! How history can repeat, how one can learn from it! Apply lessons learned, and prepare, adapt for the future!!!😎🇺🇸

A lot of people don't know that the Indians fought each other just as much as they fought us. The Time Life Wild West Series from the early 70s describes their wars in pretty good detail.

Respect to the Antelope parent who tracked down her offspring and suffered the same fate, heartbreaking indeed.

Lehmann's story is absolutely fascinating! I've heard aspects of it many times and it's always interesting.

It proves the adage: Adapt, Improvise, Overcome.

Thx guys again for a nice piece of history, that's made my day..l read the book several times but, I 'm german too and l took it with cum grano salis. I never learned about a white captive in both this tribes in this position and status .But l trust four fifth of the narrative and like your style and content. Victorio was the most handsome Apache ever and died in the early seventies in Mexico. The earlier spaniards paid the Comanche to root out the Apache, the two tribes hated each other from the ground till the times in reservation..sometimes until today I heard..😂 Every German over 40 years know that already . Stay like your are friends . God's Blessings from Northern Germany Ludwig

Something modern victim types might want to remember is that none of us are here because our ancestors were all harmless, virtuous people. Humanity has been a story if the struggle for land, resources, and power. We all have blood on our hands and no one ancestry is excluded.

The Lipan Apache were the main indian tribe in the west Texas area now called Kimble County.
They ran the show for decades until the Comanche showed up.

Ironically and somewhat Poetically, Herman was eventually adopted by Quanah Parker and lived with him and his family for a while
Herman's story is the most amazing one i have ever known of
