Lavender's Blue - English Folk Song

Показать описание
Vocals by Aurora Aguilar, arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is an folk song and nursery rhyme from England going back at least to the 1600's, where we find its earliest printed versions.
I wanted this arrangement to give us some insight into what English folk music of the rural regions would have sounded like circa the mid 1700's onward (with the caveat that Aurora and I are Canadian, so we went for our own accent and not a reconstructed English one from the era). The arrangement is therefore homophonic, with one main vocal line accompanied by a simple chord progression.
The instruments used are a zither, a lute, and a fiddle.
Lyrics:
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green,
When I am King, dilly dilly,
You shall be Queen.
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so.
Call up your men, dilly, dilly,
Set them to work,
Some to the plough, dilly dilly,
Some to the fork.
Some to make hay, dilly dilly,
Some to cut corn,
Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm.
Lavender's green, dilly dilly,
Lavender's blue,
If you love me,
I will love you,
Let the birds sing,
Let the lambs play,
We shall be safe,
Out of harm's way,
I love to dance,
I love to sing,
When I am Queen,
You'll be my king.
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
I told myself, dilly dilly,
I told me so.
