Local Look: It is fall so it has to be apple and pumpkin picking time in Warwick, NY. This is a short drive from Norther NJ right over the NY border. Warwick has numerous apple orchards My favorites are Pennings Orchards, Applewood Farms & Winery, and Ochs Orchards. Each has a different personality and offers a a different apple picking experience. Applewood has a winery where you can purchase wine to bring home and they have a hay ride to the orchards. Pennings and Ochs allow picnics in the orchard so bring you picnic basket, tables and lawn charts and spend the day in the orchard. The "don't miss item" are the apple cider donuts you can purchase in any of the orchard stores. Call each orchard to see when apple picking finishes for the year. If you do not have time to spend a day apple picking you can also purchase apples for your home made apple pies. Then head into town for some quaint shopping, or a stop to eat.
