Kelsey Landers & I made this piece for my best friend Christina Ouk (Thina).

Recently she was diagnosed with Lupus & has been fighting everyday for almost a year now, a battle that could take her life. As her best friend I was devastated, I didn’t know what this disease could do to her. I visited her in Houston & saw how it was affecting her: making her weak, unable to eat at times, spending weeks in the hospital, taking several medications at a time. The fear of losing her was real, & I felt so useless, that there was no way for me to help her.

One night I had a dream, that I was helping her find her strength again, pushing her to fight this disease & be healthy again. That dream pushed me to make this video because I want my best friend to know, that I will be there for her always when she needs me.

Even though I made this video for my best friend, this video goes out to all who are fighting for their lives against any disease & to those who have friends fighting, to always be there for them & never give up hope, because they need you more than you know.

I love you Thinie & I will see you soon!

As a dancer who lost her mother to Lupus, this piece really meant a lot to me. It was beautiful. I know how hard it is to watch someone you love go through Lupus, everything seems so hard and you do everything you can for them to get them up and moving and smiling. This piece was so fitting to that fight.

This dance means even more to me now that I see that you choreographed it for a friend with Lupus. I have Lupus as well. I used to be a dancer. I danced for 13 years. But in October 2013, I was told by my doctor that I had to quit dancing if I wanted to walk when I was 30 years old. It was extremely devastating news. I ended that season of dance, and luckily, found theatre. I was able to continue to perform but at a less extreme. I still will sometimes, now that I'm in college, find open areas and take time to myself and just dance. It's an anxiety release for me. I know, it will affect me later in life, but I can't just stop. It's part of me. I love to dance. I love it with all my heart. But, this disease is constantly making me fight. So, thank you. Thank you for any/all support that you give.

This choreography is so amazing, it looks like dancers are performing in an other world, an other dimension. I don't know why, maybe because of the music or the surroundings but anyway, this is truly beautiful. Plus, what a wonderful tribute to your best friend, this is the best thing you could do for her, I'm sure it helped her in one way or another.

I didn't start to see the father/daughter dynamic until mid-way through, when she walks on his feet, he guides her and then lets her go! Cinematic fucking poetry this is!

you make me SO proud. i've watched you grow from year to year for years to become this BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING dancer, who i know will just continue to do just that. not only is your creativity, skill, and talent is OBVIOUSLY sky high, but your heart is as well. you don't know how much this means to me. i will appreciate this wonderful gesture forever. i love you so much and i can't wait to give you a big hug for this!

and this Lupus monster may be a chronic autoimmune disease without a cure, but guess what. YOU FIXED ME. :)

love always,
THINIE

I'm terminally ill and a former dancer. I've been a fan of yours for awhile but when I read your description of this I cried. Boy did I cry. I haven't been able to stop watching this. Thank you.

This piece means so much to me. I have hip and leg problems along with PTSD. After a 14 yr old marriage went bad and trying to start over, i find myself depressed a lot. Staying in bed or waiting for someone to help me out of the darkness. I just don't have the energy to fight anymore. The one i am with now taught me how to live again and by his love. What i get from this is so simple yet complex, WE ALL NEED SOMEONE in times we can not walk or our lifes have turned into sorrow that we no longer live anymore! The part where he is awakening her and carrying her or when he helps her walk brings me to tears. That one person will come along and in your darkest moment pick you up and show you why you shouldn't give up! Everyone has worth!
