Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan-2, the Sanskrit word for "moon craft," was scheduled to land on the lunar south pole on Friday.

However, minutes before it was set to land the Indian Space Research Organization said they had lost contact with the craft.

India would have become only the fourth nation to land on the moon, following the U.S., Russia and China.

Space explorarion is extremely complex and dangerous. I congratulate ISRO for their dedicated efforts and all the achievements chandrayaan 2 has achieved so far with the resources they had.

I am in aww of simplicity of scientists. It's not like they show in western movies.
Also it's lovely to see our own scientist working for our own ISRO!
Silicon valley, NASA, NHS, US is not Dr engineers and everyone has gone is reflection of Change in India 😊. Well done for being stunningly cost effective too !

This is a great success, given how dangerous this kind of mission has always been. India should be proud!

"Only 5 per cent of the mission has been lost - Vikram, the lander, and Pragyan, the rover. The remaining 95 per cent, that is the Chandrayaan 2 orbiter, is orbiting the moon successfully, "

Writer and managing editor of Nasa Spaceflight Chris G agreed. He said that "The orbiter is where 95 per cent of the experiments are".

"If Vikram failed to land - which it looks like remember the orbiter is where 95 per cent of the experiments are. The orbiter is safely in lunar orbit and performing its mission. This is not a total failure. Not at all, " Chris G said.

Don't lose heart, India. You came far and will go far in the future. There are many explorations and adventures waiting.

Chandrayaan-2

can't be called a failed mission because the orbiter has already reached the Moon's circular orbit at over 100 altitude. It is loaded with eight advanced payloads which not only will scan Moon to look for water ice and minerals and will also make 3-dimensional mapping of the map, which will help scientists from world over know the Moon better.

The mission just lost the connection to the control center, it will regain connection while it looks like Pakistanis and Islamic extremists are just mocking India for something their countries can never think of.

It's pretty easy to understand that most people who commented here has no idea about ISRO or the missions its accomplished so far. They have just the steriotypes

Anyway.. no offence to them. Go on

Hey don’t get discouraged India! You have made great advancements in this science.
Maybe consider sending a manned lunar lander in the future . A good pilot will be able to manually land the spacecraft if need be.
