You're my critic, in that our tastes in films rhyme and I tend to agree with you, Its a question of time and off course money. I go to the cinema at least once a week and there are always lots of choices, what critics do for me is see them first and tell me if they are worth it.

I dont always agree with reviewers, and thats the point of their existence.  you need reviewers to provide a jumping off point for public discussion.  Sadly, some people are quite the opposite, and follow every word by their favourite reviewers, while a great majority of people have probably never watched, read or taken heed of a review in their lives.  I personally dont believe that a reviewers opinions should be held responsible for negative views of a movie, especially considering that a majority of the "big" earning movies these days are childish SFX heavy tosh aimed at 15-18 year olds (Fast And Furious, final destination and the endless paranormal activity movies)

Here's a suggestion: If you want to see the film to see if it really is that bad, wait the 3 years before you can see it on terrestrial TV. That way you're not paying your money to rent it, or see it in the cinema.

Kermode is objectively wrong on the matter. I don't see movies he really hates because nine times out of ten he is right.

I agree take other views onboard but make your own mind up. I don't always agree with mark or any critic if I did I would never see anything!

Can reviews kill a film? Depends on the film and the film's market. A lot of people would have seen SATC2 whatever the reviews, simply for the comfort of seeing their television darlings "up there" on the big screen. On the other hand, when Peter Greenaway's nihilistic allegory THE BABY OF MACON opened 20 years ago, the reviews were so scathing (even by Greenaway's usual supporters) that the film was pulled from 3 of its 4 London venues after only a week, much to the director's rage.

the film is rubbish, i love steve coogan but am very dissapointed with this garbage
