Female Olympian beaten by controversial gender row boxer Lin Yu-ting makes 'inflammatory gesture' in protest after Paris bout
.Gender row boxer Lin Yu-Ting was plunged into a second ring controversy tonight after her defeated Olympic opponent made the ‘X’ sign to question her sex which has been under intense scrutiny in Paris.
Yu-Tin easily beat Turkey’s Esra Yildiz, but she made the double ‘X’ sign with her index fingers just as the Taiwan boxer's Bulgarian opponent had done in the previous bout.
Yildiz appeared to be showing respect to Yu-Tin by touching gloves and even holding the ring rope open for her as she climbed out to have a compulsory medical assessment.
But married Yildiz was also seen making the ‘X’ gesture with her fingers in the centre of the ring after the victorious boxer had departed.
Asked later why she had done this, she said: ‘No comment.’
Lin Yu-ting faced more “XX” gender protests in the ring after winning her semi-final bout to ensure both boxers who failed sex tests now fight for Olympic golds.
It was the second time in succession that the gangly Taiwanese fighter faced the gesture – referencing female chromosomes – from a losing opponent.
The most toxic row in boxing’s Olympic history now rumbles on until at least Saturday when Lin faces Julia Szeremeta of Poland in her final.
Turkey’s Esra Yildiz made a controversial ‘X’ symbol with her fingers in the middle of the ring after being defeated in the semifinals of the women’s 57kg boxing tournament by Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, one of two boxers at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris who have been at the centre of a gender dispute.
Sex-disputed boxer Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan advanced Wednesday to the Olympic gold-medal round in the women’s featherweight division, but Lin’s opponent got in the last jab.
Turkey’s Esra Yildiz Kahraman crossed her forefingers twice to make the letters “XX” after losing the bout to Lin, one of two Olympic boxers disqualified from last year’s International Boxing Association world championships after lab results found they were ineligible for women’s events.
Svetlana Staneva of Bulgaria also made the “XX” salute in the ring Sunday after losing to Lin in the women’s quarterfinals for the 126-pound category,
Taiwanese Olympic boxer Lin Yu-ting defeated Turkish fighter Esra Yildiz Kahraman via unanimous decision in their semifinal bout in the 57-kilogram division on Wednesday night at the Paris Olympics.
Lin moved to the gold medal fight and Yildiz will take home a bronze as there are no bronze-medal bouts in Olympic boxing.
Lin Yu-ting, one of the fighters thrust into a gender eligibility row at the Olympics, reached the women’s featherweight final before her beaten opponent made an ‘X’ sign with her fingers.
Turkey’s Esra Yildiz Kahraman lost every round on the judges’ scorecards against Chinese Taipei fighter Lin, who joined Algeria middleweight Imane Khelif in reaching a gold medal match at Paris 2024.
After a friendly handshake, Kahraman held the ropes open for her opponent as she exited but then went to the centre of the ring and made an ‘X’ symbol with her two fingers to all areas of the crowd.
The gesture is the same as what Lin’s last opponent Svetlana Staneva did following her points loss to the top seed but when asked to explain the signal, one of Kahraman’s team replied: “No comment.”

from the beginning they should have said NO to fight against men!
the IOC would have been forced to do something, cause no one can imagine a competition without matches…

Esra should be ashamed of herself for bullying Lin. Trans compete with women isn’t accepted in Asia. We are not open for this kind of thing yet.

Olympic committee just justified an all xy womens basketball team, this should finally dethrone the USA women's team. 4 years should be plenty of time to get the Women 2.0 in place.

Laughable, a Turkish athlete wants to protest anything at the Olympics? They are lucky to be allowed in.

As I said earlier, just make another category: "Trans" or sth like that, so that women can win their medals again
