What does Net Zero mean? Progress your organisation's climate action with our modular programme.
Показать описание
We are in a climate crisis. To limit its impact, our focus must be on reaching Net Zero.
Simply put, Net Zero is achieved when we add no incremental greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
Net Zero requires two actions: massively reducing emissions to get as close to zero as possible and removing remaining emissions via carbon sinks.
Climate change poses a significant threat to our communities, organisations and economies. But there is also opportunity on the path to Net Zero. Here is the chance for organisations to innovate, create new ways of operating, increase efficiency and drive forward change.
The journey to Net Zero is a challenging one which will include vital steps as we make the transition.
First, organisations must understand the climate impacts across all their operations, including the supply chain. This requires activities such as risk analysis, emissions calculations and setting targets based on climate science to ensure our strategies for action are robust.
Next, organisations must take urgent action on their full impact by reducing emissions in accordance with a science-based target.
Reducing emissions to zero, or as close to zero as possible will be on ongoing process that requires collaboration, innovation and redesign of existing operating practices.
Finally, removing remaining carbon from the atmosphere through carbon ‘sinks’ such as planting forests and new technologies for capturing and storing emissions will allow us to reach and maintain Net Zero.
The work shouldn’t stop here. From Net Zero we can look towards a future beyond when we have a positive impact on planet and communities.
Net Zero is a crucial journey that we all must urgently take.
