Important Note: Make sure your Youtube watch settings are set to 60 frames per second and not 30. Watching it in High definition (720p or 1080p) is also a good idea. The Vectrex vector monitor footage here on Youtube has display issues (out of sync) when you watch it at 30 fps.
In today's episode of Wired-Up Retro I'll be reviewing the new Neo Geo Mini Controller that's being made for the Vectrex. It has some surprising features that most Vectrex controllers that had been made over the past 20 years don't have:
Button Swapping
An autofire switch
Truly analog directional controls
When it comes to the Autofire feature you have two options available (not mentioned in the video):
1) Click the Autofire switch to the 1st active position to have button pressing resulting in constant autofiring. Releasing the button will cause it to stop.
2) Click the Autofire switch to the 2nd active position to have constant autofiring occurring without any button pressing. Pressing and holding the button will cause it to stop. (This is what's demonstrated in the presentation with the Minestorm game.)
Also shown in this episode is Arcade Jason's Super Multicart for the Vectrex. He makes these available from time to time on Facebook through the Vectrex Fans Unite! group.
The German man who originated the Neo Geo Mini Controller mod for the Vectrex console goes by the handle 'Arcade Saver' in the forums he frequents. Here's a link to his mod:
